Thankfully I avoided the rip off $1700 (special price too) Kia was trying to charge me for tinting and paint protection of my new Sportage and now shopping around, I can get the paint protection alone for about $350. As its garaged at work and home, I am wondering if it's worth getting done at all. Feedback would be appreciated.

Not at all. it's just couple bottles of stuff which cost total $80+, wipe around your car and charge you 10x.
I personally reckon this is better:
http://www.restorfxwa.com.auVerges on being a scam! a good regular wax and polish with a quality product is enough.
This type of product and window tinting are a big profit center for the dealers.
IF you really need these sort of products, just have them done by regular mobile contractors. Chat rooms or possibly the motoring clubs could direct you to reliable and honest people.
I've had Ceramic Pro coating applied to out Outlander by Superior Shine after we bought it last year; good price for the service & is meant to be one of the better protection coatings on the market from what I could find.
Comes with lifetime warranty if you get it 'serviced' annually (about $100, includes full wash, inspection & treatment) or 5 years from the last service.
I figure for the price we got it for, and having a black car, if it makes it easier to wash i'm all for it… So far (just under a year) its been doing great.
Paint protection / tinting is usually a rip off from dealer.
The cost generally varies due to the type of protection and the paint correction etc. there are some places that charge about $2000 just for the detailing.
I would recommend it if you plan on keeping the car for more than 5 yrs. if you plan to change the car within 5-7 yrs then it's not needed. Just regular wash & wax will do.I bought a car new back in 2000 and had it for 10 years. It did a lot of k's but was garaged at night.
It had no paint protection junk on it.
When I sold it the finish had no noticeable deterioration and in fact looked to be almost showroom quality.
It was a camry, metallic green.
The most damage I see happening to car finishes is from people grinding away at the clear coat. The aim is to keep that as intact as possible. In those 10 years I polished that car maybe twice and with a liquid polish (cheap one), the rest of the time I just washed it every few months with a regular (cheap) car wash that had a wax included.
If you keep grinding away at that clear coat then the obvious will happen.
Some cars will deteriorate if parked outside 24/7 but that varies as some seem to handle it better than others. Thanks for the comments. I am pretty crap at polishing myself, so I might just pay $200 at a Westfield for a complete detail and polish.
Waste of time
Buy Nupolish and some decent application / polishing cloths
Apply and wax your car once a year, don't do it too hard or you will damage the clear coat
Dealer protection is a load of shit, huge commissions and upmarking
On the other hand if they throw it in for free and you're getting a good deal (nothing is really free mind you) then you might as well take it
Although I have heard horror stories of people buying these paint protection deals, then the old company shutting up shop and not honouring its obligations, dealers will fob the customer off saying deal with them directly, it happensThe only protection I find decent would be underbody protection on an actual four wheel drive, nothing more though as its overpriced, hyped up commission based crap
There are legit protections out there, but for most people dealers will rip you off and pull the wool over your eyes
Paint Protection don't protect against door slammers, keyed in losers or runway trolleys. So don't waste your money and save your dollar, you might need it.
Wash and wax your car at least once a year, and keep the car under shade much as you can.
Has the paint protection improved over the years, I used to see some older cars driving around with the paint/protector peeling off.
