Yellow Engine light after flat battery Toyota Aurion 2011

Just looking for advice so I don't get taken on a ride by the mechanic.

I left the lights on in my car, and the battery was completely drained out. After 2-3 days, I got one my friends to jump the car and after charging it for 20-30 minutes, the battery was working again. However, at this time there was a yellow engine light and I the car is not accelerating at all. I took it home somehow doing speeds of 20K per hour. Have tried unplugging the battery cable for good 20-30 minutes without any luck. I am also suspicious whether my friend got the incorrect ends (negative to positive) while trying to jump the battery.

Any suggestions of what could be wrong here, would be mighty appreciated, before I go to the dealer/mechanic.

Thanks a ton

EDIT: Thanks all for commenting. The fuse was blown :)

  • Does the engine make an odd/louder noise while driving? It could be a misfire - perhaps a faulty coil pack? I'm not a car expert or anything but it's happened to me a couple of times in different cars (bad luck, I know).

    • Thanks a ton, will watch out for that.

  • Most likely just being caused by low voltage Edit: but check all your fuses. If the polarity was reversed it could have blown a couple.

I would make sure the battery and connections are ok then fully charge the battery.

Do a few ignition cycles on the car to see if the fault clears but if it doesn't you will need a scan tool to see what the error is.

Sounds like the engine has gone into 'emergency' mode (I'm not a mechanic) but call your local dealer and ask their service dept for their advice.

i know this is obvious and not manly but read the manual

if you were able to drive at reduced speeds some cars have what is called a limp mode which is effectively used to either get you to safety without screwing the car much further or a dealer garage. does exactly what it says puts the least amount of stress on the car hence the low speeds to get you there.

jumping a car not always the best now toyota's have been renowned for not liking it and damaging all sorts of things O2 sensors, Auto start damage

I've got a Ctek which is permanently hooked into my battery it will completely cycle the battery full drain staged charge to get it back to maximum removing residual memory effects checks alternator. if i'm leaving the car unused for a month or so if were traveling you plug it into the wall and it maintains the battery for you great units to have and don't cause damage.

As advised above it needs the scan to determine fault code unfortunately not a hard job but well worth it you just don't want it cascading to more issues

these issues are only going to get harder to work out as cars become more complicated.

    Sorry mate

Go to any mechanic and ask them to tell you what the computer says. If the engine light is on the computer thinks there is a problem.
I assume you are not wanting to wait to get the $20 computer diagnostic thingy from ebay!

May I know how did you resolve this issue?
I’m in the same situation these days with my Toyota Aurion 2009.
