Help building my home cinema

Hi all, please kindly help me build my home cinema setup. I decided to go with projector EPSON TW9300

After that, I got probably another $2.5k to play with. Would appreciate if you could suggest good AVR, HT system, screen to go with my 9300

I'm big on video quality, but could live with mid range audio setup. Prefer floor speakers

Room size: 3.8m X 4m (screen on 4m wall). Room with thick dark curtain over window, white ceiling & wall.

Definitely looking for professional setup & calibration, so appreciate if any Perth metro retailer could do a good bundle deal.

Cheers!

  • How big are you planning on projecting it? There's plenty of nice 75" tvs that have a lot more functionality than a projector.

    • Ok,we're past that now, TV just too boring :P…but I think someone figured out I probably can max out 105" with my room size?

      • +1

Projectors are too fiddly … lot of writing, devices to switch on/off, etc

        • Well.. dogs are high maintenance too, but that didn't stop so many people from having dogs..

The screen feel just so much difference with projector..but that's just me..

Plus I already got 1 65" Tv in living…so 75" not gonna excite me, unless it's a 110" 4k TV in affordable price range..

        • +1

Projectors are quite easy to operate. Turn off and on like a TV. The only neg is that you have to wait a minute for the picture to display and the fan to cool it down before switch off. I have a dedicated switch that I turn off/isolate power after use to save residual power.

Once you get one, you don't look back :-)

    I'm big on video quality

    Yet buys FHD 1080P projector…

    You sure about that?

And please don't try to say it's 4K…its fake 4K

    • Agree! 4K enhancement it is and not true 4K.

And by the way, I have read that it doesn't support XB1S HDR considering it states it has HDR.

      Cheers

    • I never claim it to be 4k. Well, true 4k is out of my reach, so I just have to go with what i can afford no?..unless you feel like chipping in? ;)

  • oh wrong place gearsl#7z is where you want to be, replace the hash and the 7 for what makes sense not sure what language filters they have scripted on here.

You can get everything from real users of products that are found to be the best, not promoted products, help with designs and idea's by people who are just passionate.

Yamaha's newer receivers with musiccast are actually pretty good and if your thinking multi room better alternative to sonos etc but much more functional much more adaptable

Speakers are a whole different game everyone has their preferences i couldn't go past a couple of the yamaha's they make a very sweet reference speaker KEF if you have the money.

Speakers can make or break the best of systems take some time and try and listen to a range of options. from a few places take high quality lossless copies of things you plan to listen to or watch, you need a reference, remember that they are your ears they are the only thing that will tell you if they sound right not the salesman or the price tag

Most demo set up's are designed, the room will be off set so speakers can't bounce and will sound great generally.

  • something like this would be true 4K it seems.

    • I think that is a $10K projector LOL.

Wait 2 years and an equivalent will be worth $3K

      • Booked the projector, so not looking back, plus I'm not that rich..

  • I have the previous EHTW9200W and it is awesome! Congrats on your buy!

Do you want to have a Dolby Atmos / DTX setup with ceiling speakers?

Tbh, $2.5K will not get you anything too fancy unless you are savvy and go for Second hand off Gumtree and the like.

I would get a Pioneer SCLX59K (You can get them for around $1500), then shop for a Polk RTiA7's or RTiA9's (second hand go for around $1500).

Although incomplete, that is a great start. You can build from there, add a subwoofer, center, ceiling and surrounds down the track

No point having an awesome $4K projector and an entry level speaker system that has no guts .. and then you will get rid of it to upgrade and waste money. You have a proper projector, get proper receiver, speakers :-)

    Cheers

    • Also the $2.5k includes the projector screen… Pretty sure those are chalk and cheese too

      • +1

Well … then unfortunately there wont be much left for a decent system imho

Edit: I have a white wall (Dulux Natural White) and no screen. It still looks fantastic!

The question is, can you live without a screen?

There is a review of the 9300 with and without a screen and states that there is no difference.

Please google it (no time to search sorry)

You'll save around $700 without the screen.

        Cheers

        • definitely need screen. My wall ain't exactly true white

  • velodyne subwoofer

    • I would recommend SVS PB2000 for HT, but that is worth ~ $1500

  • OK, well first thing I'd say is look how much you could get the projector for from overseas. In general the prices are much lower than here, even after the shipping, and it could free up more cash. For that spec you'd probably get hit for import taxes though.

In general the same applies for amp/speakers. Local prices are at least 50% more than you can get the same item for overseas. I too would look towards Yamaha for the amp, and I've always had a soft spot for Cambridge Audio for speakers. In general I avoid US style speakers - there is a definite difference in how they are designed.

Personally I'd have a white painted wall, at least at the start. If you decide it's not good enough you can always add a screen later. Onto the wall you should be able to get a 120"+ display size with a 4m wall.

    • Not worth it for that projector.

The Epson's warranty is 3 years (including globe).

Furthermore, with AV receivers, especially from the US they are 120V hence need a step down transformer which as a result lower the power output from the receiver.

      Cheers

      • Buy from Europe -> no problems with 240v

The relative prices difference between aus and europe/US is unknown, but it can be significant. It's well worth checking, since a local warranty isn't really worth that much (certainly not double the price).

Audio and Home Theatre is really one of those areas where Amazon have the scope to win, since the prices here are often out of whack.

        • I would haggle the best you can from the local outlets first.

For example, the Epson EHTW9200W was RRP for $3999 and I purchased it for $2800 1.5 years ago.

You'll be surprised how much they drop their price as that particular item are sold in several different AV/Hifi outlets. Of course, if it is rare then expect to pay substantial - i.e Simaudio moon etc

I agree with the cost savings though i.e. Europe 240V however with the items discussed (over $1K) you get thrashed import duties as you have also mentioned hence that is where it becomes in most cases close to Australian prices.

          Cheers

  • I can recommend Elite Screens Sable Frame from Amazon. You already have a great projector so you don't have to go all out on the screen. I bought the 100" and it was packaged well, easy to setup and looks great.

    • They come in flat pack?

      • The screen itself is packaged in a plastic tube which you need to stretch out and assemble yourself. Here's a video Unpacking

  • Yamaha NS-555 vs Jamo S526HCS10 vs Klipsch Synergy F30 5.1 system

Which one you would go for ?
