+Hi OzBargain Community,
So I currently have a Macbook Air 13'inch 2016 that only offers:
- 2 USB ports
- 1 Thunderbolt
- Magsafe connector
And right now I have an AOC 25'inch i2579vm connected to my only thunderbolt. I'm planning to get another monitor but I don't have the money to afford a $200+ thunderbolt docking station. Is there an alternative to this? Because I want my AOC monitor to be on the right and another monitor to be on my left. I have done some research and seen people suggest using a 'Diamond UGA USB 3.0/2.0 to HDMI/DVI Adapter'.
Here's the link: http://www.diamondmultimediastore.com/diamond-uga-hdmi-dvi-a…
I'm only willing to fork out $50 max.
I am not sure of that exact adapter however I have tried a similar USB to HDMI out to power an additional monitor. I paid around $50 for it from Jaycar.
All I can say that it is not worth it as they are buggy and don't work well as they rely on drivers and USB power/Voltage/Current which is minuscule. I had issues with the first and then exchanged for another and had the same issue again. Worked well for a few days then went to crap, issues, flickering screen, jerking, sometimes the screens doesn't work .. etc
I got a refund.
So if the $200 docking station has a good rep then get the real McCoy and don't waste time on spending money on rubbish.
Cheers
