Am searching for websites that show the different speed limits in Victoria, does anyone come across such websites?
Is There a Website That Shows The Different Speed Limits in Victoria?
Comments
I saw that link earlier before I post, wasnt what I was after. Am wondering if there's such a website that actually tracks the speed limit on Vic roads; i.e. the speed limit on my street is 50km/h, the speed limit on the road a couple of lights near my house changes to 70km/h etc.
For example a road may have a sign that say X km/h, a couple of hundred meters down the road, it changes again to a lower limit with a single signage, then goes up again with another sign. Was approaching St Kilda from Nepean and I thought I saw the varying speed signage. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me as I seldom drive through there.
Sorry, I didn't really understand your post.
You can find the transitions between speed restrictions on a GPS app like Metroview
Or… check out:

no worries, thanks
was relying on my car gps but the map needs updating. cant be sure if waze or google map on the phone display speed limits but will try them out
No such website exists. There are some sites which will have speed limits stated, however like most other navigation platforms, these are usually obtained either by a GPS mapping vehicle or community submitted and as such not always accurate.
If you want accurate limits you'd need to contact VicRoads and make a request for a specific highway/section of highway information. Not sure if they charge for this.
I'd agree with this, I don't know of any with live data.
It would be easy for Speed Restrictions to be varied or imposed so even Metroview or simlar would be dated.
I just use the signs and drive according to the conditions.
agree. have got the sygic map (without traffic updates), i read it does have speed limits but will only show when you pass the road. doubt i'll be able to read the speed limits at home with the app open

Above is the dataset for speed signs in Victoria (updated very often). It's not in a friendly browsable format; you'll need the correct tools to interpret the data provided (eg. ArcGIS Explorer).
thanks for this

Tried it, it works! Thanks again
How to use Arcgis desktop explorer:
1. Goto Basemap and select Openstreetmap. After it is loaded and visible in left Contents panel
2. Goto Add Contents > Shapefiles
3. Select the shape file in unzipped vicroads downloadCongrats. Now look around.
You can also set filters to show only some speed signs by going to Feature Layer > Query > Speed = 50
Use google street view to look at the signs.
