TiVo Swap out for Fetch Mighty, Good Idea?

Tivo will be discontinuing their service at end of Oct 2017, after that date there will be no EPG, which sort of render Tivo useless. They offer to swap out for a Fetch Mighty PVR in form of discount voucher/code ($100 off) and have to be purchased from Harvey Norman, RRP $399 for a Fetch Mighty PVR. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Fetch Mighty PVR or its service? Is it a worthwhile swap out?, they require Tivo devices to be handed in to Harvey Norman store to be destroyed. Thanks.

  • I swapped my mothers out. She loves the fetch mighty,
The menu is very quick, a lot easier than Tivo in my opinion. Also has Netflix built in and there own movie rental.

I have read it TURNS on XBOX one (wtf) when using the remote.

My experience was bad with Harvey Norman though. Took 6 weeks to get into stock and I had to chase it every step of the way. , so check they have STOCK before hand.

    • Thanks for the info, but Tivo specified that I have to go with Harvey Norman to use the discount voucher.

    • I have Xbox one connected to the same TV, if its remote also turns on Xbox One then it is no good…

    • If you have instant on with xbox one it does switch it on but if you switch your xbox one to power save mode in menu it doesnt

  • JB HiFi will price match if you don't want to wait for Harvey Norman stock.

Not necessarily - I tried this, and so did many others with no success. However, some people have been lucky.

    • They didn't for me.

  • I'm going to hold out and see how hard it is to program manually. It's only in use with a bedroom tv anyway. Bloody annoying that they can't just keep the guide going.

Not a problem to use it manually. The problem will come when you realise that the name of the program will be something like 20170605 1730 (I don't remember the exact naming format, but it will be along the lines of the date and time). The program guide is what makes the device so awesome.

I did it - waited nearly two months for the stock. I have had a lot of problems with the Mighty, as I have a Sony 4K TV, and the picture keeps disappearing. However, this is apparently a known bug, so will likely get fixed soon. I believe if I source another HDMI cable, this may also correct the problem. Just be aware of its little quirks. Overall, I'm pretty happy, but I miss the networking package that I used with TiVo fairly regularly to remove recordings and edit out ads, to keep the show.

    • I did swap mine as well but have the same problem with Sony 4K TV. If I let the Fetch box go to sleep and wake it up, the menu screen appears ok but if I tried to watch TV, the screen would go blank (this happened with FTA channel as well)…. so annoying, I have to reboot it then it is ok…happened every time…

  • Anyone got a Tivo swap out code they don't want to use - I have a TiVo but as we moved house it want connected for 6 months so I cant get the code sadly

TiVo in Australia is alive and well. The TiVo community now have a workaround so that you can keep using your TiVo after Oct 31, 2017!
