Anyone Know Anything about Lawnmowers ? (Victa 2 Stroke)

Not sure if anyone can help me but I thought I'd try Ozbargain before I go signing up to other forum websites.

I have a 2 stroke Victa lawnmower that's relatively new. I'd say a year or so old..

I've been having issues with It for a few weeks where it will start first go, stay on for a few minutes and then it'll just die and won't turn on again. I've changed the spark plug, fuel lines seem fine although I haven't taken it all apart as of yet. It wouldn't start at all today so I got new petrol, mixed oil in etc and let it sit there for a little bit. I tried turning it on an hour later and it started ! I did my whole back yard and didn't turn off once or have an issue. I turned the mower off, went to do my front lawn and it did about 5 meters and turned off and now won't start again. I don't really want to pay someone to have a look at it as I feel like it's something basic. I've been googling all day but it's not really helping me.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be and how I can fix this thing before I burn it ? It's becoming really irritating!

    Fuel regulator, air intake/filter

When it turned off did it cough and splutter? Also when trying to start it does it sound like it is firing at all?

    • It doesn't really couch or splitter it just dies. It'll sound like it revs and then slowly turn off on its own

  • can't deal with all above, that's why i go for electric mover from sthil. Best purchase ever made. Quiet, my wife can do it, my son can do it, i won't smell like i'm from an oil rig after 30mins of mowing.. etc.. cons = gotta spend some on extra battery duh..

  • Shouldn't it still be under warranty?

  • Which fuel are you using? E10 will destroy a 2/4 stroke.

    • I put 95 in it yesterday with oil and it worked but after I took it out the front it died again. I took it down a steep drive way. My brother seems to think that it may have water in it and taking it down such a steep drive way is causing it to die. I have no idea

I would say it needs a carby rebuild

I'm thinking the same now. I've tried to pull it apart but needing a socket set to get the cover off. Might have to pay someone after all. Thanks haha

        • @goog101: Does it have a fuel tank tap and if so do you turn it off when not using the mower? I have an old Victa with the Power stroke motor and the float in the carby doesn't totally shut off the fuel so it will flood the engine unless I turn off the tap even if only stopped for a minute.

It has to be the carby its starving of fuel.

  • Probabley flooded it pull out spark plug blow it out put it back in give ball 3 pumps and bit of choke and pull on cable and bobs your uncle

    • I actually tried that. I got on YouTube which told me to take out the spark plug and try turn it on and see if fuel comes out of the spark plug hole but none came out. It's really frustrating! I tried it again this morning and it turned on but it was raining so I couldn't mow. It seems to be when I take it down the steep drive way it then decides it's not going to work

  • Every time my lawn mowers played up like you have described it's been because of a dirty air filter. Take the air filter out and see if it starts up properly. Don't use it for cutting grass without the airfilter in tho. If that is the problem cheap generic ones can be brought on eBay or AliExpress.

    • I'll try that! I don't actually know where the air filter is on the stupid thing. I need a socket set to take the cover off so once I get that I'll be able to get the air filter. Thanks :)
