Advice for Sydney 4 Days Trip (from Melbourne by Car)

HI

hoping if anyone does this before and can share trip itinerary. Please share ideas around things to do and stop overs b/w

It will be first time visit there in month of July ( Mid).

For things to do :

I will be checking this site:

Additional info :

I am trying to book 'Shangrila Sydney' using Amex travel online ( w/ one complimentary night stay offer) plus will be using travel credit to make it cheaper as won't be using else where.

We will be driving around there, need to find decent parking place (hotel charges $60 per day) which seems alright. Where more practical or can will be using public transport while in Sydney.

Also got 'Merlin Pass - to see Sydney attractions included when don't know what to do.

Get an opal card and use public transport where possible.

Shangrila Sydney is very close to where you get onto the footpath to walk across the Bridge. Free and great experience. Also close to Quay for catching Manly Ferry. Or ferry to zoo. Sydney Harbour is spectacular from on the water. Expect it to be cold, but no horizontal rain like Melb.

    • am not sure on the ferry part ($$ not sure how expensive for 4 adults), but would like to go to Zoo if its not that far.

today saw, Virgin airfare to Syd, coming at approx 870 AUD for 4 adults, tossing now if I drive or fly.

if flew then airport parking in Melbourne, Syd Airport to Hotel fare , to be considered. Hopefully will made our mind by tomorrow.

      Thanks for suggestions so far.

It's actually a terrible part of the city to get to with a car. Have a look at 'broadway shopping center'. You can probably park there for $60 for the whole 4 days (say you lost the ticket) and use public transport/uber for the rest of the trip.

You might want to see if anyone else has done 1+ day at Broadway and only been charged the overnight fee. Many modern carparks have number place recognition technology installed to prevent multiple entries to get the first free hours free. I have lost a ticket before after just one hour, and was let out for free due to this technology. So if you park for four nights, I would expect that they might pick up on this and charge you for 4 nights - if so, you will be better off parking at your hotel as it will at last be close to you and you will not need to walk 2-3kms each time you need to access or move baggage.

10 hour a day street parking is available near the rocks in Barangaroo @ $2.70 an hour, so thats $27 a day max. Parking is normally plentiful at night and on the weekends, but might be more difficult during the week. I've always found a spot on Hickson Road outside of office hours. You will need to buy a ticket from 8am daily too - but its MUCH closer to your hotel than other options suggested.

Agree with other users, public transport to most landmarks within the city is the best option if walking is too far. When I drove to Melbourne, I had the same issue as you with City parking. I did not use my car and paid $40 a night for parking :(

If you do not need your car at all and have good insurance, you even try street parking in the suburbs and getting a train to the CBD (not recommended if you have a decent car lol).

Broadway has this … but I would think you can talk your way out of it. Even better, just find a visitor spot at an apartment complex … they can't get it towed in 4 days.

you will not need to walk 2-3kms each time you need to access or move baggage.

The idea would be to empty your car and take everything to the hotel.

Poor man's BridgeClimb is the pylon lookout. It's only $15 bucks.

    Canberra (Questacon/Museums/War Memorial etc)

Bradman Museum in Bowral on the way?
