My Republic Ignoring Me and My Crappy NBN Speeds

So during peak hours my net is pretty much unusable even for basic browsing.

I've tried calling and was told a tech would call me back. It never happened. I tried chat, was too busy and given an email address. I've sent around 4 or 5 emails all with no response.

I'm fed up and want to leave to Internode. I've still got 5 or so months left on the contract. Will I be charged a leaving fee and can I get out of paying it due to them not providing me the service I'm paying for?

contact telecommunications ombudsman, you don't need to stay contacted if they not providing you with what you paid for I had the same issue with Optus and left for Telstra

    • this

      • Yeah, I reckon I will do this.

  • First, how long have you waited for a reply? More than 3 days? If no, that's a pretty big concern.

Second, if you leave within the 12 month contract you've signed yes there's termination fees. Read the T&Cs. They will hold you to that…however, as @supatight suggested above, raise a complaint with the TIO. I'd be complaining about the lack of customer service and also get some emperical data (such as LAN connected speed tests with timestamps) to help back up your case…thhe first thing they'll ask though is what attempts efforts you've made to address with them, butr if they are ignoring you, then you have a case.

I have FTTP, if I move within my contract to another address (also with FTTP and all the existing infrastructure in place, etc), it only takes a click of the button, on their end, to get me up and running. If they think of charging me any kind if fee for something like that, you can probably guess where I'm going first!

MyRepublic pride themselves of very dfast internet at very low prices, so you'll have to get some tech support and tests done with your line connection, modem, router and devices and go from there.

    • It's been over a week now of waiting for a reply.

  • That sucks! Sorry I can't be of much help but I wanted to ask what type of nbn connection are you on?

I am considering getting myrepublic for our place with nbn HFC but may reconsider now.

    • I'm on FTTP. During the day or late at night my connection is okay. Come peak hour it's unusable. It was great at first but has degraded over the past couple of months. When I've had problems before they sorted it pretty fast. Now they are ignoring me, and I haven't been abusive, whingey or anything. I've just told them my connection is unusable during peak hours and told them the speeds I was getting.

  • Come to skymesh, they have great tech support and their speeds are great * :)

(* speeds will vary depending on the technology used to provide nbn, so if you're with anything other than FTTP, there are a lot of variables to take into account)

  • Skymesh seems more expensive than the others.
myRepublic has Unlimited data for the cheapest price (NBN) (too good to be true?)
Any other suggestions? FTTN will be connected in my area in the next couple of months.
I'm currently with TPG (ADSL2) who has been good.

    • Skymesh does price matching on competition's plans (except for unlimited plans).

I'm only paying 55 a month for 500gb anytime data at Tier 3 speeds, and my monthly bills work out cheaper than when I was with Tpg (both ADSL and Fiber plan). They price matched Teleron last year for me. This plan no longer exists, but it's still very affordable at 70 a month.

And i experience zero congestion even at Netflix peak hours (on my 50 megabit connection)

  • Ring them, stay on hold until they get to you, tell them about the crap speed issue, tell them if it can't be fixed you want out of contract without penalty.

I had a second connection with a different provider so i was able to give them speedtests for their service and the other provider which totally showed how bad theirs had become.

They will let you out of contract without penalty if you keep the pressure on. if you joined and got free modem, they will ask for it back too in return for no penalty exit.

Buzz Telco and Telecube are both customer focused and actually care, so they might be worth a look.
( no i don't work for them, i just appreciate great customer service)

  • You should go for Skymesh but it is expensive than the others.
my Republic has Unlimited data for the cheapest price (NBN). Yes thats true. Go for it, it great too.
