Actually, i think those same properties make it self-limiting in terms of its popularity. Once it gets too big a following, its easily jilted core audience will start endless reddit threads claiming that rick and morty sold out to the normies, and then it will die the same natural death that every other edgy-but-not-necessarily-witty animated sitcom suffered before it.
