Was looking at one of these the other night on ebay with the 15% discount code. Would have come out at less than $300.

These things are just so expensive. Plus the fact that Taylormade and Nike are bailing out of manufacturing shows that technology just isn't moving anymore amd therefore sales have tanked.

My guess is that a driver from 2014 for $100-150 would perform 99.5% as well as this one. Mine is a 2014 Callaway Razr so probably not worth changing.

    • I decided to put it up because it's cheap af and plenty in stock at most variations.
I also agree on the technology, hence why the 2016 is a great option for anybody needing a new club (me) and the Shafts in these are why they can (almost) justify the price of $400. If you spend $749 on a club you have more money than sense.

    • Nike have already left the golf club business haven't heard of taylormade doing the same. Link?

I tested the latest taylormade drivers at Drummonds up against my cobra bio cell + which I bought secondhand for $150 delivered and the cobra was longer and straighter for me. Obviously I won't be looking to upgrade any time soon.

  • is the Taylormade Aeroburner Mini Driver a good one for beginners? or to follow up, where can I get a decent driver that'll last a while without spending a fortune? i don't mind it being an old model.

    • Reviews say yes, and good distance too. Have been tempted a few times but my R7 still going strong…

    • I'd recommend go get fitted at a local shop … they may charge you $50 or so for the 30/60 mins that you are there but often will deduct off the club price also. Yes you end up paying slightly more but Id go with a semi pro recommendation over just buying off the shelf. I wouldnt recommend that club as your main driver unless you always hit the sweet spot.

Even if you do decide to go elsewhere its still a worthwhile investment.

      • What price range should i be looking to spend on a bang for buck driver if i were to walk into a shop? i wouldnt say i'm a complete beginner, but new enough to not be buying high-end gear.

        • I had aldi clubs for 2 years before I 'upgraded' so may not be the best person to comment on price spending (still use the rescue iron out of that kit!) I would say $150 should get you a two year old new driver but I'd walk into a few stores and swing a few - get a feel for what you like. Alternatively a few courses allow you to 'borrow' one for a round if you talk to a golf pro. These are a great price … just not going to take the equivalent strokes off my game.

    • It's a good club. But It has quite a small head (by today's standards). If you're just starting out, any of the base drivers will get the job done and a bigger head will be more forgiving.
There are a couple of Cleveland clubs there as well that a very cheap! Even a combo with a free 3 wood.
If you buy a quality club it will last you a long time, my driver is almost 8yrs old and still hits long.

Good points, I am actually looking at it to replace my 3 wood which i struggle with (SLDR) and as a shorter/lay-up option for my tee shots.

      • Took a punt, should have a spot in my bag given where I'm at with my 3 wood and over driving too many holes.

    • i recently had the SLDR mini driver and really enjoyed it, great club to start off with.
im now on the M1 2016 model and its a great upgrade
