[Steam] Free Game: Payday 2

3470

ABOUT THIS GAME

PAYDAY 2 is an action-packed, four-player co-op shooter that once again lets gamers don the masks of the original PAYDAY crew - Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains - as they descend on Washington DC for an epic crime spree.

The new CRIMENET network offers a huge range of dynamic contracts, and players are free to choose anything from small-time convenience store hits or kidnappings, to big league cyber-crime or emptying out major bank vaults for that epic PAYDAY. While in DC, why not participate in the local community, and run a few political errands?

Up to four friends co-operate on the hits, and as the crew progresses the jobs become bigger, better and more rewarding. Along with earning more money and becoming a legendary criminal comes a new character customization and crafting system that lets crews build and customize their own guns and gear.
Key Features
Rob Banks, Get Paid – Players must choose their crew carefully, because when the job goes down they will need the right mix of skills on their side.
CRIMENET – The dynamic contract database lets gamers pick and choose from available jobs by connecting with local contacts such as Vlad the Ukrainian, shady politician "The Elephant", and South American drug trafficker Hector, all with their own agenda and best interests in mind.
PAYDAY Gun Play and Mechanics on a New Level – Firing weapons and zip tying civilians never felt so good.
Dynamic Scenarios – No heist ever plays out the same way twice. Every single scenario has random geometry or even rare events.
Choose Your Skills – As players progress they can invest in any of five special Skill Trees: Mastermind, Enforcer, Ghost, Technician and Fugitive. Each features a deep customization tree of associated skills and equipment to master, and they can be mixed and matched to create the ultimate heister.
More Masks than Ever – PAYDAY 2 features a completely new mask system, giving players the ability to craft their own unique mask together with a pattern and a color combination, resulting in millions of different combinations.
Weapons and Modifications – A brand new arsenal for the serious heister, covering everything from sniper and assault rifles to compact PDWs and SMGs. Once you've settled for a favorite, you can modify it with optics, suppressors, fore grips, reticles, barrels, frames, stocks and more, all of which will affect the performance of your weapon. There are also purely aesthetic enhancements - why not go for the drug lord look with polished walnut grips for your nine?
Play It Your Way – Each job allows for multiple approaches, such as slow and stealthy ambushes, to running in guns blazing. Hit the target any way you want, and watch as the heist unfolds accordingly.
New Game Content All the Time – More than 70 updates since release and still going strong with new heists, characters, weapons and other gameplay features like driving cars and forklifts. Every month offers new free content and paid DLC as PAYDAY 2 continues to be developed by the OVERKILL crew until at least 2017.

PayDay 2 free because they get you with massive amounts of microtransactions, good I guess… when sales have almost halted, dump 5 million copies on new customers and keep the money rolling in hopefully a little bit longer

You'll note that all DLC is now N/A on the Steam page. There won't be anymore paid DLC for this game. All future DLC will be free according to the developers who recently bought the rights for the game back from the publisher.

I don't think you read the link.

          Why are you doing this?
          […]
As developers, we have not always made the right decisions, but our community has stood by us through thick and thin. To honor our community’s support, all future content will be released for free for anyone who owns PAYDAY 2. […]

Do I have to buy all DLC I don’t have to get free content updates in the future?
No. You don’t have to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition, but you still will get new free content.

You cannot buy the old DLC separately anymore. The old DLC included a few heists, and some different DLC only weapons. If you want any of that, you'll have to upgrade your free version to the Ultimate Edition.

But anything in the future will be free, except for one DLC which is "Ethan and Hila Character Pack" which is meant to support h3h3productions on YouTube.

@wingwang: That's just not true. The majority of people play only the non-paid DLC, because their DLC model was a failure. So your original comment was completely incorrect.

          @wingwang:

PayDay 2 free because they get you with massive amounts of microtransactions

Payday 2 has zero microtransactions now (excluding the "h3h3 support" DLC). It however has one paid DLC, the Ultimate Edition upgrade, which varies in price depending on how much of the old DLC you own.

        • +10

@wingwang: You need to pay for what now? Everything you've said thus far has been incorrect, so I'm not sure what I could've proven out of your comments.

The Ultimate Edition upgrade is optional and is not a microtransaction. And the DLC that the Ultimate Edition comes with is barely played as of right now, so I can't imagine why you would want to upgrade unless you want the weapons.

        • @wingwang: People can join hosts for missions that are dlc only. The only benefit of getting dlcs are for weapon packs and customisation. I've played over 1000 hours of this game and got it day 1 so chill your boats and move along because you are making yourself look silly.

        • @watty: I'm not sure I feel silly, but thanks for the laugh.

        • @DogGunn: What are you on about? Comment wasn't directed at you mate (check again, it was at wingwang - I was agreeing with your point of view)!

        • @watty: Sorry, my mistake! I read the w in your name, and thought it was the same person.

Why are you complaining about this? It's a free game. Free. Zero money. No-one is forcing you to do anything.

Is this fun to play alone? I'm, er, asking for a friend who has none online.

    • +7

        Payday .. 'referral' wiki

    • All you need is a good headset/mic

  • thanks!!!

An excellent game if you can get 4 friends together. When everything works it's a great game of communication, though sometimes the most fun is had when all your scouting and plans fall apart and it becomes a game of "just grab the bags and run for it!"

  • +2

    Cheers OP.

…and for anyone thinking of playing this as single player, forget about it - your NPC team mates are useless numptys :/

    • +2

They tried to fix that with reworks to the ai's recently. As to how much better they are now… well that's up to the player.

      • Oh really?

Will give it another go then - if they can at least carry a bag now (and occasionally shoot their guns in a firefight), it may well be semi-playable :)

        • Yup! Try multiplayer as well, I'd say it's better played with other people whether you know them or not.

Good luck with your games :)

I tried this game and just couldnt get into it, besides graphics being average , the game play was a bit boring.

Shooting mechanics and hits of bullets feel a little "soft" for a lack of a better word, and I played a bank heist which seemed to take forever but honestly wasn't that fun. Besides shooting the odd officer that jumped in the bank and lock picking safety deposit boxes, there was not much to do. we all died after about 30 minutes and didnt get anything for our troubles anyway…

anyone else have a better experience?

    • +3

Yes I've spent many hours playing the game and it's only fun when you can get a solid crew together who does objectives. Dedicating roles such as medic/instant res, tank/ammo, dps/dodge players will increase your chance of success on most heists (I say this because there are special missions like stealth only for example). If you run solo into random lobbies I suggest you pick one of the builds above to fill for the team and be strong it in when you are starting out (eventually you will get different load outs to switch quickly to). My personal favourite is tank/ammo because you have solid survivability, self sustain (ammo) and pretty much is always needed since everyone nowadays goes for the suit dodge build with healing perks (to be fair their self sustain is pretty solid as well for those who know what I'm talking about). Give it another chance, play a few other maps and hope you get better team mates. Try the lower difficulties since some higher ones require more co-operation :)

      • But i already uninstalled to make room for killing floor 2 this week (on ps4) :(

      • Like other MP's it can be a great game if your playing with people who you know will work together as a team rather than yourself amongst other randoms who just want to be heroes, charge in and get the first kill etc, rather than being stealthy.

Best if one player takes the lead directing others, the others heeding to directions, otherwise its ciaos and carnage.

A few guys I play Arma 3 regularly with and myself got PD2 not long after release, in A3 we work as a team/squad, pretty straight forward what our roles are, whats required etc, with this it took awhile to work out exactly what was involved, requirements of our roles and whats available to full-fill it, who's doing what etc, someone stuffs up and the whole thing goes to shiet real quick.

    • nah you're right, would be much better if it was built on a more solid engine - I know exactly what you mean when you say the bullet hits feel a little soft.

I still think its fun though.

  • I went to add it and saw that it was already in my library and I'd already played it for 1.5hrs :D Guess it didn't make much of an impression on me, but hey free is free.

  • Thanks OP. Now registered in my library.

Out of curiosity, how much was it before it went free?

    • Approx U$19.99?

      • +2

        👍

  • Awesome, thx OP

  • Thanks

  • Link not working for me.
Brings me to Steam page, I log in, then it says "Oops, sorry! The link you followed does not appear to be a valid URL".

      Buy it via the client/app?

      • Yeah was thinking that.
Got it via app in the end!

  • Thanks OP. All DLCs are NA at the moment and all future DLC will be free. But what's the catch? Loot boxes?

  • Thanks ! great find !!

  • Thanks one more game in my collection.
