Calling All Premier League Fans

Alright so as we all know last year foxtel lost the EPL rights to optus.

I refuse to pay 15$ a month for just the EPL i sign on to the 12-month contract when optus had free EPL for all new contracts above 30$ (ended up going 40$ for 12 months at 8gb decent value at the time) customers for there maiden season.

Now the season is over i dont want to stop watching but am hard pressed because if you compare optus to over providers i could get a lot more for a lot less regarding phone or internet.

I was happy on my 40$ a month with EPL but there is no way i'd pay the extra 15$ when im already paying a inflated mobile costs.

So im putting it out to the community if anyone is using VPNs or has managed to negotiate with optus i've love to hear it.

SBS shows a game each week. That, plus MOTD, is sufficient for me.

Ok both of you are here, what is the meeting about? :-D

  • I am planning to share it with 3 other PL lovers, cos Optus allows you to login to four devices at the same time. It'll be around $4 per month. Not sure if they are going to change the rule this year though.

    • Has this worked for you? I did this last year no problem but I was trying to do the same with my mate last week. He uses my account to watch but last week it wouldn't let him log on while I was watching. The strange thing is I was able to watch it on my iPad and Phone at the same time so they must have put some kind of distance limit to avoid people sharing it in different households.

      • It works. I assume he got the error message with Device limit exceeded. If you log on to the account section of the Optus Sport Site here you can manage the devices that are listed. You can watch the Premier League on a maximum of four linked devices per account.

        • Nah it wasn't that message because his device was already registered from last year. It was something like 'This account is now in use on another device. The stream on this device has been stopped'. The strange thing was I could watch it on 2 devices so I logged out of one of them but it still didn't work for him. Have a look at this from last year saying you can only stream one device at a time.

        • @Hunter14: I don't know about that, but it works fine for me and the other two friends. Possibly because we are still in the "grace period" (Free until end of Aug)? We'll see how it goes.

        • That's cool that it's still working for you! Were you and your friends watching it at the same time in your own houses? I'll give it another try on the weekend.

        • @Hunter14: No, we watch at our own house, on different networks.

        • Yeah could be why it worked. I could watch it on my iPad and iPhone at the same time. They must have put a distance limit on it to avoid several households using it at once.

  • sportsdevil + kodi. Would recommend using a vpn though. I can't remember the name but there was some other vpn provider that had a sports portal set up, they would vpn you to India where EPL was apparently broadcast free or something?

    • When my dog uses this add on, the quality is typically terrible with sub-HD resolution and stuttering. The internet is Telstra HFC with boost up to 100mbps, but the wireless speediest yields a range of 30-80mbps, depending on time of day. Did you modify any settings?

      • hehe. No, i don't watch EPL either, just my dog. He doesn't complain though. There was another program, "QUASAR", it ran in the background and interfaced with Kodi. Basically used a torrent swarm to watch live broadcasts and that was stunning HD. Tricky to set up though and our mediocre adsl couldn't handle it. I think because our upload was so slow, the swarm decided we were leeching and booted us.

  • How about the 25% off thing running - port out and back in and get 25% off $40. 12GB for $30 is not bad

    • Do you get the EPL?

It's $15 a month on top, so $45/month all up. It's the best way to go though for BYO I think though and not too bad overall.

If you needed a new phone however you can get Optus Sport included on the higher plans and with the 25% off and saving the $15 a month there are some decent value plans there. For example the Galaxy S8 is $75/month for the 20GB plan with Optus Sport included free. So that's $30 a month more over 24 months = $720 but you get a ~$1000 phone and 8gb more data (but locked in for 24 months).

  • Acestream is really the way to go. The website for ArenaVision has a number of links that come up for each game.
If there's a 'big' club playing then you'll almost always get a good feed.
The quality is excellent and most times it'll be English commentators (ArenaVision is based in Spain)

I also use the 'soccer streams' sub reddit when games are about to commence. They list a number of weblinks and acestreams for most games

  • Merged from Watching EPL without Going through Optus

    Hi guys

I would like to watch the EPL this season, but I don't want to sign up to Optus

Do any of you guys know a way around this?

    Thanks!

    • but I don't want to sign up to Optus

You have an issue with Optus or you dont wanna pay at all?

      • I don't mind paying, as long as it's not through the roof. I have my Internet and Mobile with Telstra
