Food recall: Creative Gourmet Frozen Mixed Berries 300g IGA, Foodworks, Foodland, SPAR and Supabarn (Batch number PP1501)

Just saw this food recall notice from Food Standards Australia and New Zealand that was issued last Friday, and putting it here in case anyone has missed the news.

It sounds like this recall is a precautionary measure as the berries are still being tested.

Food recall - National: Entyce Food Ingredients Pty Ltd is conducting a precautionary recall of their Creative Gourmet Frozen Mixed Berries 300g packets with a best before date of 15/01/2021 from IGA, Foodlands and other independent supermarkets due to a potential hepatitis A contamination.

The supplier is advising anyone who has Creative Gourmet frozen mixed berries 300gm packs with a best before date of 15 January 2021 at home to check their freezer and return any opened or unopened product to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of them

    From the company.
"Since acquiring the Creative Gourmet brand in December 2015, we have been phasing out the sourcing of any berries from China for our Creative Gourmet brand, recognising a level of concern that exists in the minds of the community," it said.

"Currently over 95 per cent of the fruit used in the Creative Gourmet brand is sourced from Canada, Chile, Brazil and Vietnam.

Am I reading this wrong or is Australia missing from this list of source countries. I would pay a few bucks extra to support locally sourced products.

You're not reading it wrong. Sadly it's cheaper for them to buy imported berries.

      • Roll the dice on food health. Personally I buy frozen vegetables but not frozen fruit - hopefully cooking will remove the nastier bugs. My brother came back from one of his holidays with Hep. A. He had orange eyeballs. Not something to play around with.

    • I bought some berries on the weekend and specifically searched for Australian grown (agree they're not in season). Everything at Woolworths was sourced from Chile, same for Coles except for one brand which was Matilda's (http://www.matildasfruit.com.au/products) so there are some Australian brands out there but they are definitely in the minority. All the home brands were sourced from Chile.

      • Until people vote with the wallets then the cheapest source will win out. I consider it short term gain for long term pain.

Hep A is caused by using human faeces as fertiliser. Too many fartleberries.

    • I doubt they are using human faeces as fertiliser… Probably just contaminated water in the farming process?

        My faecal sources are impeccable!

        First time around:

"Experts warned Australians are at risk of infection from superbugs and drugs on food grown in countries such as China which use human excrement as fertiliser. The warnings came as nine people have …"

        • I stand corrected :(

Although, dunno how much you can trust The Daily Telegraph as a source :p
