Dodgy Swann 4 Channel 1080p 500GB NVR with 4 x NHD-810 Cameras (SONVK-472854)

I recently purchased one of these https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/swann-4-channel-1080p-1t…
I did a quick check to see what the video properties are and found it to be 928x576 and NOT 1920×1080p. I have sent 2 emails to dick smith, one on Friday morning and one this morning(no response yet). I was hoping other people here might have also bought one of these camera systems or similar and might check if they have genuine systems. I found by turning on audio and restarting the system it should show the video properties, it may not show the properties for a video file that it is still recording.

    Ouch - hope you didn't pay $699 when: http://www.swann.com/au/sonvk-472854

    • I paid $349 at dicksmith.com.au

      • Nice. A true OzBargainer :)

  • Hi there,

    Thank you for your feedback.

The resolution is WD1, not HD. It could just be a misconfiguration that would be fixed by a factory reset. Can you please contact us directly so we can trouble shoot the system over the phone.

Please provide your contact information, your phone number, including your email address to…….

    Thank you

    • Why do you say it's WD1 and not HD when your specs pages lists resolution at 1080p. Or does WD1 mean 1080p??

    • Swannstore: Are you saying Steven is getting WD1 whereas he should be getting 1080p & this should be fixed by reconfiguration?

  • WD1 DVRs: 960 x 480. (460,800 total pixels)
    720p is 1280 x 720. (921,600 total pixels)
    1080p is 1920×1080. (2,073,600 total pixels)

  • I bought one of these and the resolution seems to be correct on mine. It replaced a 720p system and you can definitely see the improvement in resolution.

Below is a copy of the video parameters of a test file I downloaded from my DVR.

    Width : 1 920 pixels
    Height : 1 080 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 16:9
    Frame rate mode : Variable
    Frame rate : 25.000 fps

  • Mine says it's recording in 1080p (that's the only recording option). But when I backup the file to my usb then check the properties it's 928x576. I have done a factory reset.

  • After ringing the swann call centre based in the philippines they told me to do a factory reset, which has been done, then update the firmware, which has been done, and it's still recording in the lower resolution despite the dvr system saying it's recording in 1080p. Looks like a complaint to the office of fair trading.

  • Seriously mate.. calm down.

    Firstly..

Did you receive the correct PVR and cameras? (or did somebody switch a return).

    Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8aKrKrAwEE

Have you plugged the HDMI cable in and connected it into the back of a 1080P monitor / TV and checked the resolution?

If that works then the issue is purely to do with the export to USB.

  • correct dvr and cameras, was all packaged correctly.
    it's a 1080p tv
on the tv it says HD 1080p, but it looks blocky, so bad that I wouldn't even bother installing them.
there isn't much complicated about the export to usb.
The only way to check the resolution is to export to usb and check properties on a computer. viewing on a 1080p tv and seeing the dvr say it's 1080p doesn't mean it is 1080p.

    • Has your problem been resolved yet?

      • Yes, they took it back and gave me a refund
