    • +1 Memrise.

    • What do the purchases get you? $15 to $90 in app purchase. Would that be language packs?

  • Youtube the videos

If You Are the One (game show)

  • Just need to learn the essentials - "wo ai ni" and "ta ma de"

i love you and his mother ?

      • Something for the people you like, and something for the rest..

I suppose you could add nihao to the list if you want to break the ice before they break your face lol

lol ta ma de is like FU.

    • Please use the latter if you see any Chinese passing by infront of you. It's a polite way of saying "Hi". There is a chance you might get a red envelope from 'em.

      Source: a Chinese friend.

      • Very similar to saying lang loy hum chut to the office ladies in Hong Kong.

        • Aah, "you are beautiful can we have a date".

          Thanks Google.

        • Yeeesssss. That's exactly it.

  • Thanks mate… Memrise looks good… but it says annual fee… is not a free app?

    • Sometimes you need to pay for quality.

    • You pay a fee to get extra modules and exercises. The basics are more than enough to learn Chinese adequately.

  • Find a chinese gf, can cook, clean and teach you mandarin :)

  • Ni hao! Call me Old School, but I cant learn from Apps. To make it worse, Mandarin is not an easy language to learn…. If you learn on your own, there's no one there to comment on your pronunciation.
I would recommend listening to/watching Mandarin nursery rhymes, do Mandarin Karaoke (with pingyin), watch Chinese dramas (not period or anything too deep) and live with Chinese.
How I learned Cantonese was during my hostel days, stayed in a dorm full of Cantonese, and they refuse to speak any other language with me. Learned it in under a month. Of course I know other Chinese but Cantonese is different.

    • And plenty of Jackie Chan's movies…

      • Hmm maybe not. He speaks Cantonese and just learned Mandarin. Not proficient and funny pronunciation.
