  • So what's the best way to spend points?

I used 19800 points last week to upgrade to business class MEL-PER return. Sure worth more than $100 on a measly gift card!! But everyone values their points differently

      • Was that 19800 both ways?

        • No, 19800 return so … 19800 /2 = …9900 each way… But this is only possible if you are booked on a FLEXI fare

I don't understand why someone would want to blow nearly 20k points on an added on extra, when you could spend 0 points and still get to the destination? Not a crack or anything just an observation. 20k points could be used to do 3 ADE-MEL legs for $22 per flight.

to each their own, but personally I find flying business very enjoyable, and flying economy quite unpleasant. I am relatively tall, that might be part of it, but the service levels are totally different and make a business class leg quite an experience.
I look forward to flights in business class, not for flights in economy, no matter what length.
I would (and have) pay way more than $100 for the upgrade in this example.

        • @tristanium: fair point, cheers for the reply!

        • All about comfort and service. I converted my seat to a fully flat bed and slept the whole way home from Perth. cant do that in those cramped economy seats ;) I dont mind a short flight to sydney or tassie in economy but 4 hours to perth is a no brainer upgrade for me!

    • Even on ozbargain value it at 1c/pt, this rate is very crap.

Upgrades and flights for the best value redemption, maybe I bump myself to business class on my next Singapore Airlines flight

    • How do you do that? I'm going on an SG flight a few months, can you upgrade an SG flight with VA points?

      • You can transfer points to krisflyer or you can book via velocity, it sound alike you already booked so transfer of points is the best solution but it is 1/0.75 which doesn't matter to me because you get that 15% extra from the bonus points transfers to velocity twice per year

  • Doesn't seem to apply to Coles gift cards.

    • Selected Gift Cards

  • Yes, have noted this, a pity it is so restrictive.
