Does the SDRO mail out fines? (NSW)

I received a hefty parking fine on the 23/5 and it says I have 21 days to pay for it. If I don't pay within 21 days of it being due then they send me a reminder notice. However payment after the due date incurs a $65 enforcement fee.

I only realised I was fined when I saw the little slip of paper tucked under my windscreen wiper blades when I was driving home at night. I wouldn't even have known I received a fined if someone were to have removed the ticket or if it was windy or raining and it got blown away. I have yet to receive formal notification/letter from the SDRO.

Should I just pay it already or wait for a letter? My postal address details are up to date with the RMS.

I don't think it is fair that they could add an enforcement fee on top of the fine without the driver potentially knowing he had been fined in the first place?

The reminder notice sounds like a cynical cash grab rather than a courtesy reminder to pay.

You read it wrong. Penalty > reminder > enforcement

    Wait for reminder.

You could ask for a review to try and buy some more time, but that would only be a few days.

This is spot on. In my experience the reminder usually takes a good 4-5 weeks to be processed and posted. Then you get a further 2-3 weeks to pay.

I never pay the slips, always wait for the paperwork.

I'm unfortunately all too experienced living on the north side of the bridge in Sydney (the most vigilant parking inspectors in the world).

      • Thanks guys. I will wait for a reminder letter. Got stung $250 for apparently parking too close to an intersection. Never had a fine in my life until now đŸ˜¥

        • Yep,

Within 10 metres, people get done in my street all the time because too many cars and not enough street parking.

          Have you checked out this:

Sucks parking is not included in leniency:

You can contact us by phone if you believe the fine was issued to the wrong registration number or you are seeking consideration of a 10 year clear driving record for a traffic offence. We cannot consider a clear driving record for parking, non-demerit or serious traffic offences, such as a school zone offence, speeding more than 30 km/h over the limit or driving while using a mobile phone.

        • @John Kimble: yea its a bit weird. you could get delayed for some reason and not be able to move your car and come back to a parking ticket, then speed somewhere else because you are running late and cop a speeding ticket, and youd have a better chance getting the speeding ticket waived

        • @John Kimble: Hence why I won't be appealing the fine. I don't have a reasonable excuse. I didn't know about the 10 metre rule. Thanks for sharing the link.
