eBay Seller Refuse to Refund Additional Postage

So I purchased 5 items from 1 seller on ebay and was charged 5x$7 of postage. These items were not large and could fit within a 3kg parcel. Anyways the seller refuses to return any of the additional postage even though on their website they have a $7 flat rate for any shapes and sizes. What do you think I should do?

Flat rate for any shapes and sizes, or flat rate for combined postage?

You should have asked seller to issue a new invoice with adjusted shipping (combined shipping cost) before paying, rather than paying the amount due and assuming you would just get a refund.

I didn't have much time and this was during the Thursday eBay mayhem. But I assumed it was combined because he (because he replied) has 2 sets of each item on his store. 1 with free shipping with additional $7 added to purchase price and another one without free shipping but have a $7 shipping option.

        But I assumed

First mistake. Never assume. Never assume you will get a refund unless confirmed or indicated clearly by the seller. The price you see on Paypal payment page is the amount you pay after all discounts.

So of the 5 items, are 2 or more from different listings? It doesn't sound like it means you can combine postage from 2 or more listings.

Exactly this. Whatever shows up on the payment page is the final agreed price. If you wanted the seller to offer you a reasonable postage price, then you would request for a new total. You can't just assumed the seller would refund you, no matter how unreasonable it is, simply because you already agreed to the price.

        • all from one seller but all have $7 dollar shipping at the end.

        • @sunnyc:

You didn't really answer my question

So of the 5 items, are 2 or more from different listings?

So I assume you bought 5 different items. Flat rate for any size or shapes mean $7 flat for a peice of paper or a microwave.

        • yeah regardless of size and quantity

        • @sunnyc:

additional postage even though on their website they have a $7 flat rate for any shapes and sizes.

Now quantity is included?? Not what you said before. Link to listing if you want help, otherwise, seller is not at fault here.

What do you think I should do?

All you can do is ask. The seller isn't required by law to issue refunds for change of mind.

  • Is it one or separate transactions?
Also if you were using the coupons, part of the refund will be to the coupon.

    • 1 transaction

  • did the postage make up the cost of the item, such as a seller may have the item for $2 + free postage and another seller may have the same item for $1 plus $1 for postage.

    • the postage didnt make up the cost of the item

  • Im just sad they take advantage of that sort of situation. On their website, its everything in one order is shipped for $7 flat. If you are going to take advantage of your customers. customers will just go elsewhere or setup shop themselves

Again, you're supposed to request for a new total. Why did you pay if you did not agree to the price?

        • +3

To be honest, that's not the sellers problem.

because i was in a hurry due to the promotions

The seller might have been in a hurry due to the promotions.

    • On their website, its everything in one order is shipped for $7 flat.

Is this statement in their listing on Ebay?

Wait and see how they deliver - if they deliver all in one parcel, then it may be worth kicking up a stink.

kinda your fault for not asking but give him bad feedback it works. He will come back and will refund postage, probably

kinda your fault for not asking but give him bad feedback

So you're saying it's OP's fault but harm the seller's reputation anyway? That's an incredibly dick move.

      • yeah, i am not giving him bad feedback or any feedback.

You agreed to the shipping costs by virtue of pressing the button.
    No body twisted your arm.
The seller did not create your "hurry due to the promotions".
    Your circumstances and your choice.

I wrote in the message to the seller on the purchase order, if he didn't agree to the message he should have messaged me or cancelled purchase before proceeding to send the item.

I just ended up asking to return all the products. I'm going to just take a loss, If a seller can't do any concessions for someone who made a large purchase on your site, they simply don't value their customers. Their loss because they lose huge monthly orders.

      Shameful

    • If a seller can't do any concessions for someone who made a large purchase on your site,

I'm confused. Did you use Ebay to order from this seller or did you order from their website?

    • Their loss because they lose huge monthly orders.

Huge as in hundreds or thousands of dollars?

      • Tree fiddy.

      • couple of hundreds but doesnt matter

IMHO there is no 'ADDITIONAL' postage involved.
You agreed to buy five items and pay the postage for each.
If you had wanted something different you should have agreed that with the seller before buying.

    • I frankly don't know why the seller wouldn't budge. I had customers who purchased several orders and asked to refund additional postage and I was happy to comply.

  • Hi Sunnyc,
As a buyer, I agree with you that Sellers are very good on Ebay regarding postal costs. I always assume that I would be paying 5 lots of postage for 5 of the same item, UNLESS, I make an enquiry to the seller before purchase. Buyers can always add promotional offers into the Watch List whilst contacting the Seller.

  • Never make assumptions, sellers probably hate me as I'll email them numerous times to get all of my questions answered, some only give partial answers or don't answer some. NEVER ASSUME before paying.

  • Also they can't just refund you the amount because 1. They might haven't even received your payment (it can take a month for paypal to clear payment) 2. Ebay and paypal have charged approx 13% of the amount to the seller. Any adjustment has to be made prior to buying.
