Qashqai Got Hit in Parking Lot - Repair Cost Estimate

X Posting from whirlpool

So Lara, my 2014 Qashqai, suffered a hit in run in a Coles parking lot.

Damage:

Pretty sure this is not worth $500+ of repairs. Claiming insurance for this without evidence other than the security guy since there's no CCTV and no note was left (who would leave one) would be less than ideal.

Now, my questions are:

Is it worth repairing this kind of damage? If yes, how much should I be looking at paying a repair guy to get it fixed?

  • Leave it. Might happen again. Id say that damage was done by a shopping trolley.

pretty sure if it's a trolley somebody deliberately smashed it lol.

      • could also be a careless child or a run away trolley. It happens.

      • You must've pissed someone off then if you believe it was deliberate.

        My estimate is $2.99

    $523.78

    • Have you included GST? My estimate was $576.00

      • the average quote I got for today is $700-$900.

        My excess is $900 lol.

      three fiddy

  • took off the bumper and push back the side guard, then a little touch up paint.
otherwise just a little touch up paint

    • Sadly I have no idea about cars :D

  • Call the Touch Up Guys or similar and or Panel Beaters, for a personal viewing for a few quotes, to be sure to be sure.

    • Yeah - got 5 shops to visit for tomorrow. Saturdays..ugh.

My stress for this is going to kill me.

  • Personally I wouldn't bother. Only risk is rust because the paint is missing I suppose?

If you want to try full DIY/tight ass you could ask your friendly local Nissan dealer for a teeny bit of paint?

Probably won't work because it's on an edge, but you could try the below to pull out the dent a bit?

There are some videos that use boiling water and plungers too… Not sure if you want to try that… Looks a bit too small, but hard to tell.

  • Oh and 8 or so years ago one of those touch up dent remover guys did my car above my right front wheel for about $200…slightly worse than yours though.

    • with inflation i would expect it to be $250…

I was expecting something worse. Just leave it. We all love our pride & joy but unfortunately this will happen again & again. Until a few weeks ago, i haven't taken notice of my cars appearance. I was shocked at how many scratches & dents that are now on my car.

Your car is a write off. Buy a new one and move on.

    (Just leave it)

  • Get a paint touchup pen fron Supercheap auto http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Holts-Dupli-Color-T… but make sure to match the colour code of your car. This will stop the bare metal from rusting immediately. If you can get behind the dent it is just a matter of gentle banging and pulling the metal back to approximately where it started. You could even try a paintless dent repair (hailstone repairers) who can pull the crease out of the panel for you. Shouldn't be too expensive for just one dent.

  • To provide an update, the average quote I got for today is $700-$900. My excess is $900 lol. I told my boss about it and he said he'll check if he knows anybody in the industry who can check on it.

I think I will just order a pearl white paint somewhere and live with it.

I don't like wishing ill of people, but I hope the guy who hit my car will get his car wrecked somewhere.

  • Have you tried the boiling water trick? New cars remember their original shape. Then its judt a touch up with paint!

    • Been watching that just recently. Boiling water might be too harsh so I might start with the hair dryer and compressed can air trick. I just recently ordered a pearl white base coat and paint as well thanks to the reminder of endotherm with the colour code.

Boiling water isn't likely to hurt it, but I wouldn't have high hopes for this area. It is a crease on top of a fold, and that folded-under lip gives the panel a lot of structural rigidity. That's what it's designed to do, otherwise the panel would be flapping like a canvas tarp every time you were on a rough road. The temperature shock trick works better in the middle of a panel away from folds and seams, and with larger shallow dents like a "bum print" from someone leaning on it. These sharper creases usually require a bit of force.

  • Try pulling the dent out with a stick from a hot glue gun, a bit like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkWDt66yLp4

  • wait for someone to hit the other side and claim the whole bumper on insurance?
