Please note that are in some cases the whisky at First Choice is not the exact same product as that at Dan's. As an example, the Caol Ila Distiller's edition at First choice is distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2015 while the one at Dan is distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2012, but they were close enough for my liking.

Try and support First Choice if you can rather than going to Dan's and getting them to price beat to get cash rewards and the wishcard discount.
Dan seems to be content price matching everyone rather than being the one's who comes out with the specials.

distillers edition any different with those with an aged statement?

  • to the OP… using wish cards and cash rewards once Dan's price beats is the basic principle of ozbargain … since you'd be getting an extra 10% off the whisky

Whilst I agree in principle, if everyone buys from Dan after price matching to get cashrewards and wish card discount, then their competition would go out of business and then Dan would jack up their prices. Everyone looses. But to each to their own..if you're happy with Dan's discounts go for it.

Also to clarify, its 7.5% now since Dan cut all cashrewards by 50%.

      • Yeah I tend to reward those who list the bargain because when they stop so do the bargains. I only do the price match if it's too far to drive. Dan's should have matched before people need to ask .

just like how you wouldn't go to Officeworks for a further 5% discount right :)

        • Officeworks I would price match because its stationary/electronics and you can buy that from anywhere. But due to liquor licensing laws and the limited competition in the industry, for spirits I wouldnt. We cant even privately sell a bottle of alcohol legally in this country whereas we can with anything that you buy at officeworks.

These days, Dan has hardly any good Scotch offers of their own and they have also cut cash rewards - shows that they dont care about being competitive anymore. So while you enjoy your temporary $7.50 discount, I'm happy paying full discounted price.

        • +1 Dan Murphys is the only place that cops it on here for matching prices yet everywhere advertises and no one complains. I also get sick of hearing that Dan doesnt come out with any deals, i get emails many times a week from them on their deals, plenty to find on here to.

They have a business model that means they will always have the lowest prices and that is why they are so successful. Get the sale or people go elsewhere, pretty smart if you ask me…

        • they check and drop prices on some items to get advertising and just price match on others on people ask, unlike bunnings or officeworks who do 5% off so tend to drop prices straight away to not have to do the extra 5%.

if dans did less 5% less on price matches …… they would have more discounts but with plain price match there is less incentive to be cheaper as some customers would just pay normal price.

      • Actually you only get 1.5% off Whisky now….So only 6.5%

  • Dan hasn't really bad recently, not even bother to match 1st choice price!
I know where I spent money at. Plus 1.5% cash rewards, not even worth the wait.

  • Pity 1st choice no longer have the $10 off $50 vouchers. I reckon they sold a shirt load when these were around. Maybe they will send me one for my birthday?
