Who Else Did Not Buy Anything During eBay Hump Sale?

I buy a lot of things on eBay. But on the one day we have multiple discounts, one of them 15% everything (the biggest its been since the historical 20% everything) I couldn't think of anything to buy. I can't believe myself.. I'm so ashamed. Should I hand in my OzBargain membership pin????

I bought something and was conned. I thought I was getting 20% off, bought it, then checked seller's history and saw he was selling the same item for 20% less up until the sale. He simply increased the price to pay for the discount.

BUYER BEWARE! This is routine operating procedure on eBay.

    whoops.. Yes I did..but I used the AusPost $10 off $30 so it wasn't a hump promotion

  • You should sell it for Eneloops.

I bought nothing. I was looking to buy something, but the discount was roughly factored into the seller's ebay markup. No bargain, no sale :(. I think a lot of the reasonable sellers have left ebay and only the high margin fishers will be left. If you sell items for low prices, one postage hiccup can leave you needing to sell 10 others successfully to break even.

  • Me, too busy with end of financial year stuff to shop!

I'm not the kind of person to buy things I don't need just because someone created a coupon.

You it appears are that kind of person. You are literally being controlled and manipulated by eBay into giving them money to the extent that here you are claiming to be ashamed to have not given eBay your money.

    • All bow to Diji1!

  • Count me in.

I just make a list of things I need but aren't urgent for cases like these. So I had a list of a few things I needed and as a result saved a decent amount using the coupons. Hate the whingers who are too lazy and narrow-minded to find a good deal. There are plenty of niche items that you can save a lot on.

  • Same, I had $2000 of appliances in my cart but couldn't bring myself to click buy. 15% is a lot but when its off inflated RRP in the first place the savings were only around 5-10%.

  • I looked last night but honestly couldn't find anything I wanted on eBay. That's a very good thing.

I've been building a cartload of stuff I wanted but could afford to wait on for months.. none of the items were marked up from the prices they were when I added them originally.
Totalled $55 before shipping, so I jumped at the $10 off/$50 minimum code, not quite 20% off but pretty close.
18.2% off before shipping, 14.4% off including shipping.
Thanks for being predictable eBay and thanks for having a minimum $75 spend on the 15% offer, otherwise I would have jumped early on that!

  • I didnt

    Me, not enough discount.

  • My wife had the targeted 15% off $100. I had a few small things to buy in my list, but just recently needed a bigger buy. Luckily I had a few days to negotiate by email with two sellers to get a really good price and the 15% on top from eBay was a bonus.

  • there was a sale?

Bought nothing, mainly because the whole concept was such a circus.

Their marketers probably receive great pleasure in turning shoppers into lunatics. Panic buys.

Feed the birds - see them jump. Watch the barking seals.

    Is this our future?

The way this was implemented totally put me off.

Had trouble keeping up with all the constant deals popping up every 2 hours.

Just gave up and ignored the whole thing. Would have been PISSED if I bought something at 10% and 15% came up next.

I didnt. Too overwhelming with all the deals I just gave up.

  • This is Ozbargain not OzEbayBS. No, 15% = nota bargain. No criticism of those who pulled the trigger on a carefully chosen & prepared ages ago list.

    • No, 15% = nota bargain.

      It's a massive bargain when it's a site-wide sale.

eBay prices are usually already pretty competitive.

  • Didn't need anything so didn't buy anything.

  • Not me. Used the $20 off on a $103 torque wrench. Bunnings is $99 and Autobarn is $110 so worked out nicely.

    • And it costs $70 on Aliexpress.

      • Can definitely get cheaper torque wrenches online

This was a Kinchrome with ANSI/DIN certification so no regrets.

  • i fell asleep. lucky me, save few hundred dollars

  • me, nothing I particularly want at the moment.

  • I bought nothing, because i refuse to have a paypal account, so all ebay 'deals' are moot for me. Personaly, i think it should be a title requirement.

    • why do you refuse to have a PayPal account…?

      • I had an account on two separate occasions years ago. The first time, I had no problems for a long time, and out of the blue PayPal locked out down. So I closed it. Since then, I ask others if they ever have issues with PayPal, they always say 'never anything like that'. So a couple years later, I opened a new PayPal account, because it was convenient. Before I could even use it, PayPal locked it down. This was after completing the bank card proof of ownership transaction. They started demanding copies of ID, utility bills, passport. I told them to gf (nicely) and to just close the account, They mostly just ignored me, eventually had to log a ombudsman complaint to get my $2 back and close the account. So to me, PayPal are a unscrupulous company. They have zero value to me, and I avoid them where I can. I will probably get a neg from PayPal fanboys but don't care. I had a bad experience I'm sharing, that's it. I know I'm not the only one here that avoids PayPal. All these eBay 'bargains' require a PayPal account so they're no bargain for many members.

        • That's really unfortunate / strange :( I'm sorry to hear that.

  • Nope, nothing. No good TV deals which is what I want right now. Plus all the price jacking and bs wasn't worth my time. The Auspost deal is still on so I can still get $10 off.

  • Used the $10 off $30 spend from auspost x2 & $10 off $50
I have items on watching list specifically for these small value codes, I don't 'browse' when sales come up on eBay.
