        The camera is the highest resolution is history. Period.

        Sorry guys, was just going off the price for the kit. Don't buy if you don't want. There may be some other things in the bundle that you like.

      This also has door sensors and other security gear, you should not just rate it on the cameras alone for $179.

    Thanks OP, I just bought one.

    You can't expect HD for $179 delivered. It is what it is, and for my intended use (keeping a better eye on the kids when playing outside and monitoring access to the shed/garage) it'll be perfect. Cheers.

      youd be better off buying a Xiaomi XiaoFang 1080P Night Vision Wi-Fi IP Camera Motion/Voice Detection, as youd be able to tell your kids off and save yourself $100 and know the kids are your kids with FULL HD video.

        I didn't realise you could buy HD camera's so cheaply these days. Looks like the one you mentioned can be sourced locally for well under $50. i thought at least $150 easy! If I get a few of those and free IP camera software, I should be able to have a cheap HD monitoring setup for the back yard as intended.

          Didn't realise you could get much better for your money. I'm actually really annoyed at HN that they would try to sell this crap. They've obviously omitted the specs of the camera intentionally.

          @UFO: This includes door/window sensors, a motion detector, cordless phone (for outside calls or use as an intercom and to set the alarm), a hub that can call you or 4 other numbers and the ability to add other sensors/monitors. The cameras aren't that great but they do also have infrared motion detection and temperature sensors (indoor units). I also believe they are more secure than IP cameras as they use DECT wireless tech not wifi.

          The Xiaomi is great and available for less than $30. But not sure how they go outside. If they are under the eaves it may be ok, but i'd be worried about condensation etc.. would probably kill it eventually. They are really indoor cameras, although you can place them in a window facing outside. They will work very well during the day, but night vision will be no good due to reflection.

    They REALLY tried incredibly hard to keep the pathetic camera resolutions hidden away for as long as possible - you've got to search and search through miles of marketing nonsense to find that - so well done.

    Very poor from a top shelf brand like Panasonic - is something I'd expect from a generic Banggood etc product.

    Please note buyers, you will still need install power cables for cameras and alarm sensors to work. So with all the installation work required, why not buy something that will work. The cameras are useless in detecting anything and will have a lot of false alarm.

      You only need power for the cameras and hub. The window/motion, water leak and glass break sensors are all battery powered.

    People really are resolution snobs these days. Fair call that it's not great in this day and age, but the Xiaomi gear can be painful to work out how to use. I have the camera and while I have used it for a couple of things:

    1. Insects set it off all the time
    2. Manual is strictly in chinese
    3. App is in Chinese, and even when set to English half the app and all notifications are in Chinese. Particularly painful when you get notifications and have no idea why or what is going on
    4. When setting up the camera prompts you audibly, in Chinese
    5. If you are expanding your system to as many components as this has, that's a lot of Chinese to figure out.
    6. The locale needs to be set to China for the thing to work for some reason, even though Australia is in the list, the app won't work otherwise
    7. To get the cameras to work with any open standard you need to do a little hacking
    8. There is a chance that the devices are open to hacking by the Chinese govt and therefore anyone with the knowledge (insert your government agency name here)
    9. Did I mention the fact that everything is in Chinese?

    Now I don't complain about all the above because they are dirt cheap and we are ordering them from China, so I would rather have the option of using then than not.

    However in comparison one would expect that all of this is in plain readable and understandable English, would be a relative snap to configure, is more more secure, purchased and warranted locally and can be returned if it doesn't do the job it's returned quite easily at your local. On top of that the app will be in English, will probably work, and you likely won't be trawling blog posts and youtube to work out how it all works. For $179 it may not be for you but it's hard to complain about.
