Nexus 6P Camera, Can It Be Improved?

Hi all,

I have a Nexus 6P and overall it is a satisfactory phone.

However the camera is 100% pure excrement, high light low light, its crap. I don't believe its my camera skills (though I am no expert), I was able to take good photos with the LG G4 (pre-bootloop).

My question is, is there anything I can do to improve the camera? For example, would investing in another camera app make a difference or is the ineptness at the hardware level and no amount of good software changes it?

Help appreciated.

  • Few things you can try, if you want to be a bit more serious and it depends on what you're shooting.

Use a tripod (like them gorilla pods with a phone holder) or some form of stabilisation for low light shots and use the timer to take the shot rather than touching the on screen button. Any small bump will immediately create blur.

For more advanced, play around with manual controls.

Use a filter for post processing if you don't know what you're doing. But don't over process it.

In the end phones have limitations (especially in low light) in comparison to DLSR or mirrorless cameras with much larger sensors for capturing light.

I have zero problems with my 6P. Takes rather good photos. Unlikely a new camera app will help.

    • Same here. Quite often, someone will ask me what phone I have when they see how well the pictures I've taken turned out.

      • Same here! My friends would ask me to take the same photo on my phone because it'll turn out better than theirs.

  • Download 'L Camera' for up to 5 seconds exposure time. Set this up on a tripod and you'll have amazing night shots :)
