so the prices are what you'd expect to pay now?

Any prices that seem reasonable will be price errors that will take them three days to correct but in the meantime they will cancel the orders and expect you to visit a store for a refund if you paid via PayPal.

David Jones like Myer have the worst ecommerce systems on the planet, no doubt picked by the same geniuses that brokered the deal with Dick Smiths. Roll on Amazon in Australia, it'll be the end of David Jones and Myer.

I've never had an order honoured by David Jones and only one by Myer which took two weeks to arrive which is the same time it takes orders to arrive from Amazon US! Amazon has always honoured pricing errors.

I'm not seeing any worthwhile discounts, any good deals will be price errors and not honoured and the rest is available cheaper online from real retailers.

      • +1

I challenge anyone to find the item they are looking for…

      • +1

Worst experience with Myer today too. Took them 7 days to respond to my order to say it's cancelled but their website still shows stock for the same item and happily accepted new order. Makes u wonder whether they really want to sell anything at all via their online platform

All these retailers are rubbish. I ordered some items from Harvey Norman on Saturday and this afternoon I get a message to say they've shipped the $2 items (that I ordered to reduce freight and can only be used with the items I purchased) and no mention of the more expensive in stock item! I'm expecting an out of stock email and the hassle of having to return these $2 items so I can get my freight back.

Why don't they make it easy, they treat the customer like rubbish and make no effort at all. Look at all the DJ fanbois in here, they must love it when DJs slaps then around.

    • what else is there to pay?

    • Hi @tuzii,

Yes, although if you are payin with a David Jones storecard or AMEX you will receive a further 10% discount on selected fashion, shoes, and accessories.

      Thanks.

Hi Rep: My 2 year old Breville Microwave stopped working yesterday and I was looking to buy the same one. I have looked it up online last night and I saw most places(including DJ online) were selling it $299. This morning I woke up and I saw this deal on OZB. Great timing(I thought). I went back online just to realise that the microwave I want is now "reduced" $399!!!!

Don't buy another one, exercise the ACL and ask David Jones to fix or replace it as it's expected that a $300 (or $400 at DJ's on special!) microwave would last longer then two years. They will likely fob you off so you can approach the manufacturer next.

Given the amount that David Jones charge for the premium shopping experience they should replace it for you on the spot.

Most microwaves have a 2 year guarantee, I would check to see if you can make a claim first if you haven't already!

Contact the manufacturer as they'll help you out. I had a sharp microwave repaired that was four years old when it failed by mentioning the how I expected it to last longer when I contacted the manufacturer. You don't need a receipt as they can tell how old the machine is.

Most microwaves have a twelve month express warranty for example Breville, Panasonic and Sharp. Samsung have two years.

It will be covered by the ACL so the manufacturer will fix it.

My suggestion is to make it $249. Thanks

Hi Rep, how about you contacting your people and tell them to fix the price?
My suggestion is to make it $249. Thanks

LOL it takes then two to three days to fix a pricing error so your suggestion of a discount on a regular priced item will go nowhere. Maybe at their closing down sale it might get to $249 for the display model.

        • Looks like you can contact fairtrading and provide them with the details of the 'price reduction'

        • @JGSydney: I called the number you gave me 3 times so far, spent more than 2.5 hours on the phone! Your staff is very rude and incompetent! The first guy hung up on me when I asked to speak to the manager. The second one ,Mel, she was very arrogant and she kept talking about the item being out of stock online(not true) and she said something about price error online since the DJ stores have got it for $299(20% off not available in store)She took my mobile no because the manager was "in a meeting" but none called back. The third person, Dan, tried to be helpful but after 50 minutes on the phone told me the item wasn't available anymore(not true cause I was able to add 2 more in my cart and choose home delivery and payment options). While I was waiting on the phone for Dan to call his manager(I never got the chance to speak to a manager BTW) I found the same model and color selling for $249 at BIGW(you can't find it through BIGW's online microwave section but if you google the model you will find it in stock here ) so I mentioned that to DAN and he refused to pricematch because in the meantime the DJ page was showing "not available for home delivery" but only available in store! I had to explain to him that BigW has got in-store and online stock. Only after telling him I will be contacting fairtrade,ACCC etc he put me on hold and he agreed to have the item sent to my home address for $249(BIGW pricematch).
Now, I'm only waiting for a phonecall from DJ saying that my order has been cancelled for some stupid reason….

        • @cyssero: UPDATE: I have managed to find the receipt from the person who bought the microwave…25 months ago! It was purchased from my local Harvey Norman store(they don't sell Breville microwave ovens anymore) so I visited the store and they told me I'm out of the 12 month warranty because I(the family person who bought it) didn't choose the buy HN extended warranty. When I mentioned ACL, the guy who served me wrote the Breville contact number on the receipt and asked me to chase it up with the manufacturer.
I called Breville and they told me their warranty is 12 months. The lady who spoke to me said she had never heard of ACL.
When I looked up ACL, i saw somewhere that the consumer warranty applies to the retailer and not the manufacturer…

        • +1

          @GregFiona:

The problem is that the ACL doesnt actually state specifically how long consumer warranty applies for (after manufacturer warranty expires). The closest word is "reasonable time", which is unhelpful as the definition differs between people and product. No doubt there are people who would argue 10 years for common consumer product to be reasonable.

  • Does the 10% discount apply automatically when you use any AMEX card?

That's not what has been posted in the deal.

"© 2014 David Jones - all rights reserved"

How hard is it for a large company like David Jones to update the copyright year. LOL

      • Hello kerfuffle, I applied a DJ store card which was approved and is in the snail mail to me. Is it possible to call your store for the item I am interested to see if they can hornor the additional 10% when I receive the store card later on this week? Thanks.

        • Sorry, I can't help you with that. That's something you'll need to speak to Customer Services about.

      • If this is the case, then you need to update the title and description, as that's not what this deal says.

[edit] Yep, I just tried with a ANZ amex, and no discount was applied. Negging until title and description are fixed.

  • Also $15 back when you spend $50 through Amex

    • Only in selected stores in Sydney (Elizabeth St, Market St, Barangaroo, Bondi Junction and Chatswood)

  • +5

Even with the so-called 50% discount, everything is way overpriced. Will give this a miss. Can't wait to see the day Amazon will touch down the land Down Under.

  • +4

Down down, Amazon will pull you overpriced muppet down..

  • +2

Extremely not happy with DJ, order cancelled. Myer sent 3 out of 4 item purchased, took them a week. Never will shop at DJ again.

  • +4

No wonder these guys are struggling! I saved the $30 cashback on a $150 spend a few months back and looked loads of times for something to buy but it's all so expensive. At least Myer have some decent deals every now and again.

Plus you can't go saying that AMEX card holders get 10% off when they don't!

    • +3

Agree with carleast - AMEX does not get 10% off - mod please change to "Extra 10% off for David Jones American Express Card or the David Jones Storecard"

  • don't see why you guys keep dumping on DJs. They price match and with discounted giftcards, they are the cheap.
never pay their RRP and always use discounted gift cards.

I landed a dyson v8+ for $582.40 after they matched binglee and paid using discounted giftcard. I am very happy with them, best price matching policy and easy returns.

    • I can't agree more

    • -1

Agree. DJ's protect their customer. If you need to return something they replace it on the spot, and send it back to the supplier to deal with. Try taking something back to Aldi - you will never get a replacement since its out of stock in 6 hours.

      • Agree. DJ's protect their customer.

WTF. By charging 25-200% more then their competition! I guess if your have too much money they protect your wallet from expanding.

If you need to return something they replace it on the spot, and send it back to the supplier to deal with.

No they don't, they might for a small item but take back a microwave oven and see what happens.

Try taking something back to Aldi - you will never get a replacement since its out of stock in 6 hours.

LOL now the David Jones fanbois have reached a new level of absurd. Basic microwave from ALDI comes with a three year warranty whereas from DJs it's one year and it costs four times the price! You don't need to return it to the store, you can their customer care line for warranty.

    • don't see why you guys keep dumping on DJs. They price match and with discounted giftcards, they are the cheap.

They have to price match as they're at least 25-200% more expensive and their price matching is like many retailers subject to all sorts of conditions. Just buy from the cheaper places.

never pay their RRP and always use discounted gift cards.

Why bother, the gift cards lock you in to using them.

I landed a dyson v8+ for $582.40 after they matched binglee and paid using discounted giftcard. I am very happy with them, best price matching policy and easy returns.

So what? All the hassle of price matching, visiting the store, buying gift cards etc is just a waste of time.

David Jones are overpriced, have a poor range, poor customer service, terrible website and are stuck in the past but not in a good way.

Good for you that you're prepared to deal with all of that and find ways to get a bargain on an item but the rest of the population want to deal with a retailer that doesn't rip you off and offers reasonable pricing all year round. Roll on Amazon that has great prices and customer service.

      • +1

honestly i think you are shopping wrong. By your logic, all brick and mortar stores are overpriced except for ALDI.

Price matching is what makes DJs good and competitive. Getting at least 10% off on to by using discounted giftcards is what makes them the cheapest.
ALDI sell generic no name brands, if they sell a brand that DJs also stock, guess what? DJ's will price match and you will get an extra 10% off at least. All they need to see is a webpage, they don't even need to call the store.

So you could use pricehipster or shopbot or whatever and find the cheapest price and go to DJs and ask them to match it.

Have you ever tried returning an item with ALDI? I have tried returning a faulty petrol gardenline leaf blower and was referred to a phone number while I was instore with a receipt and it had only been 2 months old. They didn't have the item anymore because as you know, most of their products are "seasonal" so I couldn't get a replacement and no kind of service.

You shouldn't be comparing ALDI to DJs.

        • -2

honestly i think you are shopping wrong.

          No I'm not.

So you could use pricehipster or shopbot or whatever and find the cheapest price and go to DJs and ask them to match it.

They won't always match and why waste all that time and energy unless you're a DJs fanboi.

Have you ever tried returning an item with ALDI?

Nope, I don't buy tools from there.

I have tried returning a faulty petrol gardenline leaf blower and was referred to a phone number while I was instore with a receipt and it had only been 2 months old.

It's pretty clear what you do for warranty service at ALDI, I guess reading that page of the manual or the box wasn't clear enough for you.

They didn't have the item anymore because as you know, most of their products are "seasonal" so I couldn't get a replacement and no kind of service.

You can get it repaired, replaced or a refund by calling the warranty number.

You shouldn't be comparing ALDI to DJs.

I didn't, it was a DJs fanboi that did that.

        • @Maverick-au:

Well whatever, can't convince an old dog to learn new tricks for both you and I.

I shop at DJs only when I have discounted giftcards to get at least an extra 10% off, and you shop wherever you actually shop since you haven't stated a real alternative except to wait for amazon.. which I am pretty sure DJs will price match anyway. Kudos to you.

        • -2

          @googoogaga:

and you shop wherever you actually shop since you haven't stated a real alternative except to wait for amazon.

I shop where I get the best price and that is often Amazon US, DE, UK, IT and ES.

which I am pretty sure DJs will price match anyway.

They'll never be able to do that, their business model is to screwed up.

        • @Maverick-au:

Nice, now all your arguments have ZERO credibility. Amazon does not post every item. I'm glad you can find whitegoods on there, appliances, clothing that fit and what else are you buying there?
What exactly are you buying ?

        • @googoogaga:

Nice, now all your arguments have ZERO credibility.

Says the person who shops at DJs.

Amazon does not post every item. I'm glad you can find whitegoods on there, appliances, clothing that fit and what else are you buying there?
What exactly are you buying ?

I said I shop where I get the best price and that is OFTEN Amazon and I listed the countries that I shop from.

I purchase most of my clothes from there, all my shoes, plenty of electronics products, DeWalt power tools, travel products, kitchen products like storage and cooking utensils including pots and pans, even down to termite baits and ant killer.

Our LiIon Bosch mower came from Amazon Germany, a few months ago I purchased a Siemens induction cooktop from Amazon Spain at a third of the best price here and books etc from Amazon Germany. Car parts from Amazon Germany.

Other products like washing machines etc I'll source locally. Our oven came from the UK at 40% of the local price delivered.

Sometimes I'll use a freight forwarder like for my ECCO shoes which generally don't ship direct and one brand of jeans but it still works out a lot cheaper.

But you keep buying from DJs because they're such good value with gift cards LOL.

Go In store and buy the stuff if its in your hand they cant cancel

Bollocks, they won't sell instore either if it's deemed to be a price error and you've just wasted a heap of time. Heaps of people have tried it in the past and been turned away, very rarely does someone get a purchase honoured.

What's the point of a website if you have to go instore?

        • stop crying because you didn't get a 1c price error

It's not about 1c price errors but whilst on the subject why does it take David Jones 1-3 days to fix a so called price error? More illegal conduct from David Jones like their refusal to refund PayPal.

I have had none of my online orders cancelled and bought heaps of stuff in store

  • Too little and too late.

"David Jones presented its half-year financial results last night, with its profit climbing just 1.6% to $106 million. As part of a turnaround plan, the department chain says it will be launching its new online retail store and a sophisticated new loyalty program later this year."

    http://www.powerretail.com.au/news/david-jones-half-year-res…

This new online retail store will no doubt be as bad as the current one. How hard is it for the retailers to look at the Amazon store and get ideas from there? I bet the people in charge have never used the interweb and barely use email so it's to be expected.

Five years ago they launched their new website which was going to take over the world and look at how that fizzled out.

    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1872580

And to see how bad DJs and Myer are at online selling read this article - https://mumbrella.com.au/australias-ongoing-online-retail-fi…

"The continuing inability of Myer and David Jones to deliver customers a decent online brand experience disqualifies them from complaining about digital competitors eating their lunch"

Harvey Norman is no better either as are a number of other local retailers.
