Your links are the wrong way around. M links to XL and vice versa.

    • +1

      Thanks, fixed it.

  • +19

If you want to compare it with Kmart $4 towel - I have both, the material is very different. Kathmandu towel is much softer and similar to terry cloth towel. Some people might not like the Kmart towel, it has more "rubbery" feeling; on the other hand it is compact (takes as much space as a t-shirt in your backpack) and it is easy to remove sand from it when on the beach.

    • +6

Or if you're willing to spend a little more than the $4 KMart ones, I would suggest the

N-Rit Sports Towel Large 120x60 $10 from travellers warehouse.
They're antibacterial and made in south Korea so excellent quality.

Bought 3 for a 6 week trip to Europe with the Mrs and they have been awesome.

We ended up only needing one towel for the both of us, and my wife has long hair!

It dries 100% overnight. Similar to the KMart ones, sand doesn't get stuck, unlike Kathmandu's which searedtuna mentioned having a Terry towel texture

      • +1

        N-RIT 120x60, $18 shipped

        • Shame, sale must have ended. Remember having to buy several to make worthwhile

        • @sator: Hmm, still on sale on my end. In fact, it's more sale-ey now, says it's down to $5 (+ $8 shipping) now. Actually kinda tempting, tbh…
(But only available in medium/green :/)

        • @chossenger:

So annoying when the sale gets better!

But totally worth it, my fellow ozbargainer.

  • +1

    thanks op, bought one.

  • +5

If only they had a repeat of the deal from a couple years ago..

    • +3

Yes one of the best things Ozbargains done for me. I still use four of them regularly.

      • Any idea how those old towels compare to these quick-dry ones?

  • +2

    Edit: uBlock was the culprit.

  • Thanks OP. Have been waiting for these for some time.

  • +4

    thanks OP.
    10% cashback from cashrewards.

    • the large one is only $12 but then the shipping kills it @ $10.

  • +7

I don't need one but bought one…just in case

    • +1

You might need one when you grab an Ozbargain flight deal.

    • +1

    • +1

      Bow to the true Ozbargainer.

  • Missed out on the free membership during click frenzy :(

    • +13

Use code VISAFREESC for free summit club membership.

      • 10% off and 10% cashback with cashrewards awesome stuff thanks for the code Ninja

      • +1

Can you be a summit club member with a normal account, or you have to create a separate account for the membership? I created an account last night, so I already missed out on the 10% discount. Wanna have the membership for the future, just when another deal shows up around here.

Edit: I got this when I tried the code 'Promo code "VISAFREESC" is not valid.'

        • +1

Thanks for posting this, I am a summit club member but when trying to checkout I received a message asking me to call their call centre to link my summit membership to my online account (seems clunky) - I just used the code you provided to join again (for free) automatically linking to my online account. Saved me a phone call hassles.

        • Add club member and add at least one item, then use the code.

        • @jason101: Did you use the code with a purchase or just by itself? I already made a purchase last night and tried to use the code this morning for summit membership but it didn't work. Someone said you should have an item in your cart for the code to work, don't know.

        • @wantphp: Yeah, that's what someone else told me too. But I already bought stuff last night and don't wanna make another purchase now just for the membership, so hopefully they'll offer free membership in the future with similar sales.

        • +1

Looks like you have to purchase an item alongside the membership, you can't just buy the membership on its own for free.

Got this when I put in the code: "Discount (Extra 10% off Clearance for Summit Club members, Free Summit Club Membership with purchase for VISA customers)"

        • +1

          @AussieDaddy:
I firstly added code for the club membership, it didn't work, then I added the towel, tried the code again, finally, got the discounted

        • +1

@AussieDaddy: Yes I had logged in as a summit member then added the items to my cart, on checkout realised I wasn't getting the 10% off so I opened another window and went to my "account" which then asked me to call the call centre to link my summit to my online account, instead I just returned to the 1st window I had open, added the summit membership then applied the code (items + membership in shopping cart) = worked ok

        • @jason101: Cool. Thanks

      • thanks - deal updated :)

      • Thank you!!

  • Thanks OP bought one each size. Hope to remain dry during my travel.

  • Does anyone know if it really anti-bacterial? as there is no Nano Silver in it, only 80% Polyester, 20% Polyamide.

comparing to the deluxe version, it has 4% nano silver —> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288158

    • Wow - i didn't even know there was such a thing as a premium version in kathmandu? New?

  • +9

Thanks OP, been waiting for this for a long time, bought 7 from Kathmandu ebay store, free shipping( for order over 100) + 20% cloths20 promo code + cash back from cash rewards. Pretty sweet…

    • Must just be me, but looks like its now sold out on eBay.

  • Get the xl if you are wondering about size and not going backpacking for 1 year straight. It's not that big and you want it as big as possible.

    • +1

      That's what she said?

  • +1

    Bought
Already a club member + Cashrewards so 20% off on top of prices.

Who the hell pays this price for luggage when you could get a hard case samsonite for same price..

    • +2

nobody. never buy kathmandu unless its at least 50% off

    • +2

Kathmandu is one of those places where everything is more than double the real price, so they can run lots of big "70% off sale!!!" promotions.
Never ever buy anything at less than 50% off there. 50% is real price, not even a sale really, when it goes beyond 50% it is in sale territory.

  • Price is now $13.50 due to 10% off on clearance items

    • It's still showing $15 for me. How did you get the 10% discount showing? Are you a summit club member or something?

      • yes its for summit club member

        • Makes sense. I created my first account with them last night, and have just tried to become a club member with the code posted above somewhere in the comments, but it hasn't worked for me.

        • @AussieDaddy: Code worked for me, there was a space after the code, I removed it and it worked (VISAFREESC)

        • @Shads: I think I am doing this the wrong way. I have a regular account so I added the $10 club membership into the cart (that was the only way I could access the summit club membership section) and then put the code in the promo area but it isn't still working for me. Did you do it the same way or in a different way?

        • @AussieDaddy: Do you have anything else in your cart? I changed my mind on the towels and only have the Summit membership but it didn't work. So I just added a cheap beanie and then the free Summit membership worked again, so looks like you need to buy something extra for the voucher to work.

        • @Shads: Looks like that's why it isn't working for me. I bought the towels last night so I didn't have anything else in the cart. Will probably do it some time in the future, as someone mentioned last night they offered free membership in the past as well. Thanks

  • +1

Bought a few last year. They are terrible. Good for $15 though.

  • +6

Is it just me, but is $13.50 still a bit expensive for these towels? Or at least an average price?
It's literally just a large microfibre cloth and a few other places seem to retail around all the time $15-20 anyway
    MountainWarehouse Giant $16.99
    Mountain Warehouse Medium $10.99
Kathmandu gives you the impression you are saving 75% but in reality you are saving 20-30% at most.

    • +1

      You aren't wrong.
Kathmandu distortion field can do that to people.

  • +9

Can not understand why a $15 Towel got more than 100 votes.

    • +1

      Its the new eneloops

    • +7

      $15 (Was $60)

Because of the part in brackets. The best trick in marketing.

      • +3

They're still making a profit from this after they sell it for $13.50
…so imagine the markup profits when they sold it for $60, or other items in store!

    • +9

Its the OzBargain sheeple effect. New users just see the huge savings and automatically think its a bargain so just follow everyone else and give it a +, even if they dont buy it. The voting system should change so that you need to comment and leave reason to make a positive vote (like with negs). Otherwise its less accurate to find out what the bargains are because it just turns into a popularity/social contest.

  • these are the good ones, but are never on sale
    http://www.kathmandu.com.au/travel/travel-accessories/towels…

    • They are made from the exact same material. Nylon is a Polyamide.

  • +2

Just a word of warning with the sangria - it runs something fierce. I fortunately had only washed it with a couple of older beach/diving towels but now they are all pink tinged.

Wash separately or regret your decision!

    • First few washes ?

      • At least the first few washes.

I've only washed mine twice so far and would not be brave enough to wash it with anything else yet.

    • Oh so they must be great for travelling with then, not!

    • +5

When the river runs red, take the dirt road.

  • +7

I don't know if this is good value but I bought one because it had lots of upvotes.

  • Will you have to clean them twice as frequently?

As someone with rough flaky skin on my hands and finger tips, I find the microfiber gets stuck to my hand a lot which is annoying.

  • Great deal thanks!

  • Is it worth getting these towels to replace regular bath towels or is it only worth getting if you need to travel with them or use in gym?

    • I guess the main advantage is the quick drying. Do you ever have problems with your regular ones that they take too long to dry?

      • Thanks.

Well in winter I have the central heating on so don't have too much problem with drying.

      • Cotton is more comfortable than microfiber things for daily use.

  • Used a MasterCard and applied the free mempership coupon for VISA customers… I feel so dirty now :)

    • you dont have to. this is OzBargain

      • +2

Blue Cat should've been using an Amex. This is OzBargain after all.

  • thanks OP! bought 2 for travelling :)

  • +1

    Good for a car chamois???

  • +1

Darn it I bought it before the code for free membership. Didn't want to pay $10 for nothing.

    • +1

Buy another one. Return the other

  • VISAFREESC - Message says - Promo code "VISAFREESC" is not valid. Am I doing something wrong ?

    • Need to add an item to your cart and then use the code.

      • Ah ha, yes that worked ! Thank you.

        • code not working anymore.

  • +1

Bought one of these towels a few years ago before I went to Thailand.

Used in on the beach for a bit and they collect twigs and bark like a magnet!

I had to throw it in the bin!

It got me dry the first few times I used it I guess haha

    • Yep, literally everything sticks to these types of cloths. They seem to generate static electricity which probably makes this worse too. The best Kathmandu travel towels were the premium ones that had a waffle appearance from quite a few years back, which of course they no longer sell.

    • +1

You wouldn't want to spread it on the ground and use it as a beach towel. These things stick to my fingers because my skin is flaky. They're annoying, so I can't see myself using it as a towel for drying. They're good for cleaning though.

  • Thank you! Bought the strippy psychiatric one. Very lovely

  • Thanks! I got myself a XL and L for good measure - love microfibre towels, lost mine travelling last year. Also grabbed the free membership because yes, Kathmandu is way too expensive at full price let alone discounted price! Will pick up in store #easy

  • Code no longer work.
