Move from Sydney to Brisbane

Hi All,

Just reaching out to the wider OzB community for some advice here.

Thinking of a move from Sydney to Brisbane for lifestyle reasons. Have been there twice and love the slow pace and how friendly the locals are. The cheaper cost of living is a big plus as well as are the beaches.

I have lived in Sydney all my life so the first year will be a trial before I decide if I want to settle down there.

I am 30, single and work in banking. I have very very few friends or ppl I know in Bris.

Just wondering if ppl on here have made this move and their thoughts and advice.

Have heard it is hard to get work in financial services down there - any truth to this?

    I live on the gold coast and it's like you say a lot less hectic.

    Wages are lower, living cost is lower. Public transport here is a rip off IMHO, and traffic just as bad as Sydney (well maybe a little better).

    Less jobs on offer, but less people looking for the jobs so i guess evens out.

    If your young and single, what do you have to lose.. can always go back.

    i'd do it. you can switch state of origin teams and get the winning feeling.

    when you say harder to get jobs "down there", you actually mean "up there"…we are north of sydney

      No traffic is as bad as Sydney traffic.

        i spend 10 minutes everyday stopped at the hyperdome… i get dressed and eat my breakfast

    What kind of banking?

    You should be looking at Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, London, New York, Chicago, Boston?

    You'll make more money, progress your career further, more likely to meet a partner … IMO, that's a better lifestyle for someone your age.

    Less jobs in Brisbane in general I think. Do you have any particular suburb in mind? Any job prospects? And I'm not sure what you mean about beaches, the closest beaches are the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast, unless you mean the artificial beach in South Bank.

    Moved to Brisbane 7 years ago and haven't regretted it.

    I work in financial services and have never had a problem getting a job.

    My advice would be not to buy a unit right now, as there are thousands being built which will flood the market over the next 1 to 2 years.
