Genuine or not you decide. Also you know what they say…if it seems too good to be true…

    • -1

      4787 good vs 38 bad?

      • Feedback is generally made once the person receives the item, rather than after weeks/months of usage. Also, do you think the average non-tech-savvy person will be able to tell the difference? Also not all the feedback is for Apple (or so they say) items.

    Thanks.

I've bought it anyhow. Its only $ 10, I hope its better than the $8 kmart ones!

    Can I delete this thread?

      Shoulda gone to Specsavers.

  • Thanks. I lost my iphone ones and need one quite urgently. can't wait for one month!

  • +1

They have sold 501 pairs and the feedback for that product is encouraging. So I would assume they are legit.

    • +2

Really? Looking at the negative feedback there's a number of claims of fake products being sold as genuine.

I think they're unlikely to be genuine (especially given the price).

Apple don't sell things at a discount like that - so how did this seller get > 500 genuine ones at this price?

      Too good to be true.

      • -3

So 38 bad reviews overrides the 4787 good reviews in your books?

        • +5

          Absolutely, my rationale:

Most who would buy these "too good to be true" items are also likely to, 1) know they're fake before ordering and are happy with that they got; or 2) are naive and can't tell the difference so are happy with that they get.

A positive review does not mean they are not fakes. I buy fakes often (for somethings) and leave positive review as I got exactly what I expected.

Most of the positive reviews are for cables - there is likely little to determine if they are fake or not and they also likely work 100% like the original (ignoring durability) so soon after purchase they seem just fine and the reviews are positive.

So the positive reviews seem perfectly normal to me.

For the negative reviews, MANY complain of the exact same issue - faulty and non genuine, I don't believe for a second that one seller could possibly have so many faulty Apple cables. A bit of research also shows that these are available everywhere ali-express etc for a few bucks.

I think the evidence strongly suggests these are going to be fake.

It's never the number of reviews IMO, it's the content and analysis of the reviews and there's more of a story to be had from the negative reviews compared to the positive reviews.

          But each to his own.

        • +1

          Yes for sure
EBay feedback must be sifted through for the negatives as thats where you often find the truth.
Many people are moronic in the way they give positive feedback and sometimes give it too quickly.

By the time it is broken a week later the feedback has been left

  • -1

So is the other one which is doing 2 for 1 deal. Either way I'm not complaining. Even if it is not legit, so long as it does not sound awful like the ones available in the stores for < $10

  • +2

    Look at this review:

Fake apple headphones, even though it has serial sound quality is sh**. Dont buy

    • +1

crap! is it possible to cancel the transaction or even worth the effort for $10 lol

      • +7

If it is a fake, PayPal dispute the seller for a return or a refund.

        • +19

you can buy these on aliexpress for $3 delivered. and they all have serial numbers. so what if they have serial numbers? what does that even mean? here, have a serial number 7483465836856578.

        • +6

@altomic: hey. you copied my serial number. im gonna sue you. 😎

im with everyone here…. we smell a fake.

        • If it is a fake, PayPal dispute the seller for a return or a refund.

Not a good idea, if reporting it as fake PayPal may require you to prove they are.

Best way is to do an eBay claim and say they are faulty and cut out.

Seller will have to pay for return postage as well.

        • +1

          @altomic:

          Seems legit. Carry on.

        • @Scab: Seller only has to pay return postage if that is their own terms.

        • @Aussie Smurfette:

Incorrect, with an eBay claim the seller has to pay for return postage.

What a seller states in their terms is meaningless, they have to abide by eBay's terms.

With an eBay claim the return postage is borne by the seller.

          EDIT: Some info from: https://goo.gl/KZye6R

          When an item is returned

The buyer is responsible for returning the item.
The buyer must return the item in the same condition in which it was received.
The seller is required to accept the return at their specified return address.
The cost of return postage is the seller's responsibility.

        • +4

@altomic: I'm a qualified serial number engineer and I can tell you straight away that's a fake serial number. You're not going to fool anyone with that one!!!

  • Aren't the genuine ones called AirPods?

    • +2

Those are wireless, Earpods are the wired ones.

    • AirPods? Wow, Apple aren't even trying anymore :/

  • +1

Very unlikely to be genuine since Apple and most re-sellers like Officeworks charge upwards of $30. Feedback here doesn't look too encouraging (most people wouldn't bother to differentiate between real/fake). At least the one person that left neutral feedback said "Seller refunded all ok".

I don't imagine there would be much of a difference in quality between good fakes and the originals though.

    • I don't imagine there would be much of a difference in quality between good fakes and the originals though.

These won't be good fakes, they cost under a dollar delivered in quantity. With the originals they are a known product, these will be built to look the part but with the cheapest thinnest wire, poor soldering etc inside.

  • -1

Doubt there's much difference between fake and real for these but probably unlikely to be genuine at that price.

  • I bought fake iPhone charger cables off EBay recently , they still work so all is good. Feedback for these sort of items doesn't mean much. People purchase and once received generally leave feedback. Usually before they have used them and way before they have used them for any length of time.

  • Great! The eBay seller ignored my request to cancel the order and sent me an email saying order is being shipped! Talk about fast service! Can I still log a dispute with PayPal to get a refund even though I did receive the item?

    • -1

Read my reply above, say the goods were faulty.

And do an eBay claim and not a PayPal claim.

Do not state that they're fake or you may have to prove it.

      • Thanks. Does that mean I would need to ship the item back at my expenses? What's the difference between eBay and PayPal claim.

        • +2

eBay allows you to make a claim up to 30 days from estimated delivery date and also covers return shipping (you have to pay upfront and they will reimburse you once you provide proof).

PayPal allows you to make a claim up to 180 days from estimated delivery date, but doesn't cover return shipping (unless you've activated the offer).

Basically, what I would do is this:

          Wait until you receive it.

Lodge a request for return via eBay and state the goods are "Significantly Not as Described" (just say the sound cuts out or make something up. Do not state they are fake as then the onus is on you to prove they are).

Wait for the seller's response and if not satisfactory then escalate to eBay.

You'll find most sellers will just refund you the amount rather than have eBay step in as they know they will have to anyway, especially for small amounts like this.

Do not ever listen to any seller who asks you to cancel the claim or sale, you must follow eBay's guidelines.

        • You're not allowed to send counterfeit items through Australia post as per their regulations.

      • Why would you say it is faulty? Sellers probably gonna ask you to prove that too. Better off telling the truth.

        • +1

Telling the truth would be saying:
"I was on this forum and they all agreed these are fakes, so I'm a bit of a boofhead and want my money back… please."

I'd suggest you follow Scab's advice.

        • Why would you say it is faulty? Sellers probably gonna ask you to prove that too. Better off telling the truth.

Nope, if you say they are fake you may have to prove it to eBay/PayPal.

Saying they are faulty requires no proof.

        • +1

          @StingyBritches:
Indeed. I'm such a boof to order this knowing it is too good to be true.

        • @hpkv: Not really, with so many buyers giving good feedback. Let us know how they are.

        • @hpkv: Naw. We've all done it.

        • +1

@PJC: You gotta ignore the positive reviews, look at the negative. Fools are easily fooled. There's clearly a number of negative reviews claiming products are fake. One or two might be inaccurate, but there's a clear trend there.

That's my number 1 rule - look only at the negative reviews. If you can handle what the negatives say it's a go, otherwise it's not!

    • That's actually a very good way to make sellers ship faster an item you bought (that you want). You email them to cancel but in fact you really want them to ship it ASAP which is exactly what they will do.

      • They don't need to ship it then though, they can just say they have.

      • +1

How dodgy. Why bother! They will get negged. Not even a single reply to three emails I sent asking to cancel the order

      • It won't be shipped any faster, they just mark it as sent to pretend it's been posted.

These things are more than likely just put in an envelope with no tracking and just a stamp.

  • I bought these "authentic" ones a while ago because I don't want to pay $35 or whatever for authentic ones for my iPod.
They work fine, audio is fine, cheapest headphones I found with the controls on the wire. They feel different (slightly stiffer wires, control makes louder click) but work basically the same.

  • +11

Forgive the stupid question, but why would you replace a leaky, poor-sounding pair of earbuds with another leaky, poor-sounding pair?

  • Most products coming from China are fakes.

Ebay makes millions of $$$ from people selling fakes.

Report people for selling fakes more than a couple of times and you will get your reporting ability removed.

Lots of ways to tell but one of the best is the weight. Weigh you item then compare it to the official weight from the company who makes them. Hint: fakes are usually much lighter.

  • +1

Imo, try them out. Genuine or not, if they sounds alright for $10 just keep them.

  • +3

tldr asked for advice, didnt take it.

  • I have been given imitation lightning cables packaged in what seems to be the original Apple box/packaging. Works fine, charges phone.. data transfers okay too.

  • DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY I BOUGHT A CABLE APPLE LITNING AND THEY WENT BUST AND THIS GUY DOESNT TAKE BLAME BUT SAID ITS APPLE

  • +1

Thank you all for your help and advice. An update, seller was kind enough to accept my cancellation and refund. I guess I was being impatient :) Happy days!

  • +1

Fake, u can get them for like $3-$4

Better off spending a bit more and getting the xiaomi piston for around $16
Bought a couple and have never gone back (unless I can't be bothered getting them, then I just use the el cheapo)
