eBay sellers -- do you still use templates?

Back a few years I've always used an eBay template to make my listings look a little more professional and such.

However I noted that ebay no longer shows you the full item listing (user-generated description) unless you were on a desktop browser or have enabled the full site view when viewing on a tablet or mobile device.

This means that unless you were using a responsive HTML design, a template that looks fine on a desktop view would look absolutely horrible on a phone.

And obviously, a lot of eBay users now find it easier to bid and buy over a smartphone since it's just far more convenient.

Do you think templates are still a good idea (worth spending time or money into?)

I think not. Plain text and bullet points auto-resizes and wraps the text correctly, making it ideal to view on any device.

Also, ebay will turn off "active content" next month; such as Flash plug-ins, images and forms. There's no point going creating something that will disappear soon.

    • The active content thing doesn't bother me, I just have static images and tables to organise the content.

I've just finished listing about 4 items, all left justified plaintext, only about 2 images, no table elements. I think keeping it simpler is betteer as it gets better SEO.

I wonder if google actually picks it up.

  • 5-9 years ago yes, everyone used them, now its basic as the below, because 60% of sales are from ebay mobile.

    Item name
    Item Condition

    Brief Description 1-3 lines
    Whats Included

    Any questions?

    Postage
    Payment

  • I made a template with several images included. Looks much more professional i think. I know basically nothing about html but mine still shows up perfect on a smartphone when using app - not sure why!

    • Images will have to be ssl also. HTTPS vs http link otherwise they won't show up.
