How to Maximise Credit Card Points with PayPal Credit Balance?

Just wondering for future reference.
Someone has paid me 1k via PayPal to return some money.

I've got my credit card linked and collect credit card points.

I didn't know that any bills paid come off the credit balance. Thus me not getting any credit card points.
How can I avoid that in the future.

I'dont want to link a bank acc and withdraw as I have heard horror stories with pp and their behaviour

  • Can't you link a bank account to transfer money across and then unlink it? That's what I've done in the past. Just be careful with any transactions coming through in that period

  • It costs PayPal significantly less to take the funds out of your balance instead of your credit card. They therefore will always prioritise it - no way to avoid it.

And yes it is a nightmare to link to bank account.

Personally its only 1K. I would keep paying for stuff with paypal and forget about it the points. Linking to a bank account is not worth the trouble.

I have had my bank account linked to Paypal for at least 10 years. Never had a problem. I wouldn't let the occasional story scare you away from doing this.

same as me, never had an issue.

  • How can I avoid that in the future.

Pay your bills directly with your credit card or use BPay.

Or just link a bank account and transfer your balance over every time you receive money.

Create 2 paypal, one with cc one with bank account? Transfer any fund to the one with bank account and alwyas pay with the one with cc?

  • Tried adding money to PayPal now it's adding surcharge. How you are doing?
