"Up to 10% off" Woolworths Car Insurance + $100 Woolworths Gift Card

950
CARX03

Someone sent me this promotion on Woolworths Car Insurance. When you buy online:

  • $100 Woolworths Gift Card (with CARX03 coupon code)
  • Price beat comparable comprehensive insurance
  • Buy online get 10% off discount (5% off 1st year for online applicant, "up to 5% off" for over 25 years old)

I did a quote but unfortunately it's no cheaper than my current insurer but I guess someone might want to test out the comparable insurance price beat claim.

They couldn't price beat my current premiums so more gift cards were offered to me. Doesn't really help when the monthly premium would remain higher than they are currently…

    • Use those extra gift cards to pay for one months premium ?

      • I wasn't aware that was even possible.

        • It's not. You need to pay by cc or dd.

      • Then you are paying more for monthly insurance…Would have to wait for renewal to actually save money.

  • +1

Good find, plus their drive less pay less option literally halved my premium…I live near the CBD and drive the car to the shops 2-3 times per week max, even at 3000km that's still 58km/week allowance. Not bad, plus the $100 Woolies voucher is 2 x cartons of beer, even with a monthly payment option.

    • How do they even check how many km you have driven?

      • You enter your odometer reading, and should it be above the amount you're insured for then you have to pay a $2000 excess.

        • Easy, I definitely won't drive 3,000 km in 2 months. Time to buy the policy and then go back to RAC.

        • @nurries:

You can go lower than 3000km! I think 1000km is the lowest. Choose PBTM option & then profit! I couldn't see if there's a minimum period you need to be insured in order to claim the gift card.

        • I set 10k for mine but will reach it before my renewal in September. Apparently you can call them to let them know and they'll adjust the premium accordingly (I pay per month). Anyway, how can they even check if you entered the true reading and not day say a few hundred lower? Not that I did that. Just wondering.

        • @Sir Casm:

          What is PBTM?

According to Woolies "*Card sent up to 45 days after payment of your first monthly/annual premium. Offer conditional on holding this insurance for a minimum of 30 days and first premium payment received by Woolworths Insurance."

        • @nurries:

          Pay by the month.

        • +2

          @CVonC:

They can't, but the T&Cs would specify you must be truthful & have provided correct information, and they'd likely not insure you if it was found that you'd committed a fraud in order to obtain cheaper insurance. Not worth the risk TBH.

          @nurries:

          Pay By The Month

        • @Sir Casm:

Ah yes, managed to get my quote down to $36/month. Easy $100 :D

        • If you choose to Pay By The Month, can you cancel anytime?
or are you locked in for 12 months?

        • +1

          @Travis J:

No, you can cancel any time and they refund any unused portion of the premium, as it's paid in advance (either annually or by the month). Just be aware you need to hold the insurance policy for at least 30 days to qualify for the gift card.

        • @nurries: mines $20, a month with 5k 3excess lol

        • @Turd:

Better hope you don't hit someone haha

        • +1

          @Travis J:
Condition: If you choose to cancel your policy within the 14 days after buying this policy we will give you
a refund provided you have not made a claim. Should you decide to cancel after the cooling off period we will deduct a $30 fee to cover reasonable administration expenses.

        • @imtiaz366:

So are you still looking at 2 months premiums over 45 days (they used to take payment at the start of the month) + $30 admin (which would be about $100)?

      • +2

You are insured for the kilometer range you specified at the start.
Say you insure for 10,000km and state your starting odometer is 5000km. You will be insured for your odometer reading 5000-15,000. Have an accident outside this range (above or below) because you lied to them, and you won't be insured :)

        • Lol imagine if you have a minor crash (and you specified a higher start odo) then you have to do multiple trips up and down the east coast to rack up the km to make insurance legal haha

        • +1

Yes you will with a crazy excess. Don't spread bs.

tried this once to wind back some km's on my dads car after Ferris convinced me I wasnt dying and we should go on an adventure for the day…
          it didnt end well

Been with woolies a few nears now, every time renewal comes I just cancel and sign up again for cheaper and wish giftcard. Love how you can pay monthly without any penalty. Sometimes the total comes cheaper than paying for 1 year upfront. Mind you it's like just a few cents ^^

  • Good timing. Been waiting for the next round of offers. Hopefully the new premium is cheaper.

  • The quote made my current RACV insurance look cheap. Even factoring in 10% and the $100 voucher.

    Budget Direct $861.69
    Woolworths Car Insurance + 10% off $1564.86

    Waste of time for me.

    • +6

Just get them to pricebeat, once you get the gift card just switch back to budgetdirect.

      • and then put in about 60% of that amount into the Coles price match big red button and get it at that price - another $50.
Currently paying $240 p.a full comp with windscreen cover for my 2009 VRX Outlander. $500 excess I recon it was. Need to put in a claim, about to find out how good it really is. But at the 11 month mark now is the time to switch to Woolies as I can still click the no claims button.

  • Just in time. Need to renew my insurance and coles bumped their price up.

    • me too. Woolies is way more expensive. Last time I switched to Woolies (with a price beat), then Coles came back & price beat them by 10%.

      • How?Do you need to inform Coles you not renewing?

        • yep, you just call & cancel

  • Is Woolies insurance any good?

    • +12

      They're the fresh food people.

      • +3

Cheers. I will take your guidance that their core business is groceries, and therefore implying that insurance isn't their core business and hence should not be considered.

Cheers mate, appreciate your help (or insurance advice) on this ;)

    • +1

I had my car insured with them a few years back and had to make a claim. It was all very hassle free and easy. I only left because I found cheaper (Coles) but otherwise I'd recommend them.

      • +1

My housemate had a car written off (her fault). It was relatively painless. However the remaining months she had to pay was taken off the insured value. It's part of the PDS.

      • +2

I had been insured with Woolworths for 10 days and then my car was hail damaged, had no issues with the claim or repairs whatsoever, I cannot rate them highly enough with my claim experience.

    • +1

Had a claim with them a couple of years ago. Had to give them a few calls to speed up the process, otherwise was happy with the outcome.

  • Just cancelled Woolworths insurance 10 mins ago and was about to switch to Coles..
This makes Woolworths a few bucks cheaper again (even after coles $50 price beat) so looks like Ill be signing up again with woolworths :)

  • I'm already with Woolies. Is there a way to use the discount?

  • Good deal. Is Cash Rewards relevant here?

    • Neg

  • Who are they underwritten by?

  • Few dodgy conditions in PDS to be aware of:

A qualified repairer appointed or approved by us will do
the repairs. While you can arrange for a quote from a
different repairer, we have the final say on who will do
    the repairs.

You may have to contribute to the cost of repairing or
replacing items such as tyres, engines, accessories,
paintwork, bodywork, radiators, batteries or interior
trims that have been affected by wear and tear or rust
    and corrosion.

Your policy does not cover you for:
    • tyre damage caused by braking, punctures, cuts
    or bursts;
    • damage to your car arising from wear and tear, rust
    or corrosion;
    • mechanical, electrical or computer breakdowns,
failures or breakages, or where a component fails to
perform to its intended design specification; or

    • Is it specific to Woolies or any car insurance normally?

    • +2

Dodgy?!?! I rekon every insurer doesn't cover for wear and tear or mechanical break downs lol. I'd like to see the insurer that would accept a claim from a customer that had their timing snap to cover the $4000 damage and got that paid out. Get a grip.

Contributing to these cost is only for wear and tear claims only. Make sense that they don't want to be paying for old shitty car restorations but actually unforeseen accidental damage which is what car insurance is for.

The repairer part is probably to cover their ass from dodge chop shop quotes but there are also consumer law protections they can't fob off.

    • +1

Thanks for the fine print. Interesting how it could be interpreted. I read the last point, "breakages, failures, etc" as if the steering column failed and broke and you had an accident it wouldn't be covered.

Come to think of it, the second paragraph is really dodgy. Thanks! Unless one's car is brand new, it essentially substantially reduces their liability on everything if they choose to.

Gave you a + to balance out the neg lol.

  • +4

most of the positive reviews come from people who haven't had to make a claim. Sounds like a solid deal unless you have to.

Be warned. Very poor ratings on their service: http://www.productreview.com.au/p/woolworths-car-insurance.h…

    • +2

2.7 is an amazing score on product review. It's pretty much equivalent to a 4.5+

    • +2

      Most insurances get low scores

  • very expensive. quoted $400 more than my current premium.

  • I got my payment to be $20 a month with 5k excess!

Can I use it for 1 or 2 months then cancel then still get the voucher? Profit $60.

Can you have more than one insurance on your car? I already have one on my car already.

      1. Possibly yes, but will be charged $30 admin fee for cancelling after cooling off period (14 days).
      2. No, you can have only one policy at one time, do the start of new from tomorrow and cancel the old on the same day.
      • +1

Cooling off period and cancellation fee:
You have 14 days after buying or renewing this policy to decide if it
meets your needs and you wish to continue. If you choose to cancel
your policy within the 14 days after buying this policy we will give you
a refund provided you have not made a claim. Should you decide to
cancel after the cooling off period we will deduct a $30 fee to cover
        reasonable administration expenses.

  • Just a heads up that Woolies will not insure anything that has extractors fitted.

  • The question is, why are they sending you stuff and not posting it on OzBargain?

  • +1

Thanks OP for the extra $100 that will come my way.

I did the whole price beat exercise a few days ago. So for perspective. Woolies quoted me $1k, but price beat my Coles renewal of $600 by another $50, making it $550.

Dumping in the $100 will make my comprehensive $440 this year!

    • Similar situation for me :)

  • I wouldn't use it if it was free

  • How does the insurer check the number of miles we drive ?

    • you can specify any number of miles you want, however, they will only cover you for the range of miles you specify.
So, if your current reading is 50 miles, but you tell them it's 100 miles and have an accident at 80miles, you wont be covered. So, it makes no difference to them what number you specify.

If your question is how do they check your mileage once you have an accident? I don't really know, perhaps they'll send someone out to check?

      Hope that helps.

      • Occam's razor says they'd have the authorised repairer record your odometer when it comes in for repairs…

        • What if you don't take it to Occam's for repair?

    • I have a policy with SGIC which covers me for 5000 kms per year. They did not asked oddo reading when i applied for the policy.

  • +1

With insurance, make sure the claim side is comparable to your existing insurer. No point getting say a 20% discount on the premium and a much bigger discount/or a lot more hassle when you claim!

  • Just some clarity they will only price beat a renewal notice not a cheaper quote from another provider.

  • Yikes… I paid $460 with coles insurance and woolies is $806. No dice :(

  • +2

    another thanks for this deal..

also worked out a few patterns in their premium calculator

*The premiums are calculated on the larger $ boundaries, so for example our crappy little car had the same premium whether insured for $4100 or $4999

*If you enter in a highish km usage, when it gives you the choice between drive-less/pay-less andunlimited km, if you then drop the km estimate down the unlimited $ premium drops (which it shouldnt), meaning I was able to get unlimited kms for less than my actual km usage via drive-less/pay-less

*Entering a woolworths rewards number also resulted in a reduced quote/premium

  • "Suspension: Lowered more than 25mm OR Raised more than 50mm" = "We are unable to offer you cover due to your car's modifications"

Funny stuff, woolies seem to hate males

  • +1

Did anyone get a confirmation/any details of the $100 gift card after signing up?

  • Thanks. Insured my car. Never asked me if I wanted direct debit for a monthly payment.
And no information about the $100 gift card after payment. Any idea on when that comes through - and how ?

    • It says that it will be sent within 45 days of the first premium being paid.

      • Where does it say this?

  • Wow, very bad review in whirlpool

    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2232104

  • Woolies quoted me $15xx on the website but I was able to price beat my Bingle renewal $640 (which was already the cheapest I could find) by $50, AND get the $100 gift card (which is an e-gift card btw).

I'm satisfied with the price and the lady on the phone had good customer service too.

P/s: Coles would not even provide me a quote due to my "profile" being too high risk. LOL.

  • Anyone received their $100 voucher?

    • I just bought a policy, they told me up to 45 days and that I would receive it by email.

      • Confirmed, called up and was told similar.

  • Their initial quote came in $100 above Coles Car Insurance. They will price match and in the end beat my Coles quote by $53, plus I got the $100 voucher and 10,000 rewards points.

  • how you get 10,000 points? When i quoted my car, only limited kilometer shown free $100 Gift Card but not unlimited. How this works?

    • When I rang to price match Coles Insurance, I asked the call center worker whether she had my Woolworths Rewards card number. She said she did and advised I would get 10,000 bonus points. I'll be checking to make sure they come through.

      • Just called to price match my Coles renewal. The guy on the phone said no $100 Gift Card and 10,0000 point for price match. NOT HAPPY!!!
