Hair Styling Product Recommendation (Men/Women with Short Hair) - What Do Ozb's Use?

Hi Guys,

Quick question - I'm using this right now: https://www.woolworths.com.au/Shop/Browse/toiletries-beauty-…

I find when I get long hair - it doesn't work so well.

Not super keen on paying $30 for a tub of hair product from the salons/barbers.

Any other decent cost-effective solutions?

  • Any of these from Moosehead ($9) are great IMO I go with the Gritty styling Clay.

    • I tried this (the green one). It wasn't great at all. I chucked it out after two weeks. I thought I was applying it wrong, but after looking up some tutorials on Youtube, it seems I wasn't.

Maybe it's just my hair though….

I bought one - thank you. Will give it a try.

      • Great - let me know what you think.
You might even need to buy a strong clay (very strong hold) and mix it with a weaker version of the range to get the best combination for your hair.
        For $9 you'll be happy.

  • Baxter of California.
    Hard Cream Pomade

It washes super easy after each day.
    Its expensive though

  • Hanz de fuko quicksand

Most of the other products I use leaves my hair oily and flat - this one doesnt

I use the same gel from the movie There's something about Mary

  • I've used about 50+ (just a random number) different hair products from western brands to Asian brands American Crew, RockStar, Boy/Girl, Spice Sisters etc. and this one is by far the best in terms of style-ability and wash-ability.

    http://www.takaski.com/product/deuxer-4-dry-paste-wax/?ph=d2…

It's about 1300-1400 Yen Tax inclusive in Japan.

The one your using now, I've also used it and would rate it trash tier, lol.

Your better off going for American Crew/Hard Muk (which is more readily available in Australia) etc.

In terms of actually styling your hair, don't use too much hair product. Just use little bit, get style and spray for hold.

  • I shaved my head instead - was easier.

American Crew Fiber - you can buy their smaller container to try it out - you only need to use a tiny bit so even this small tub should last for a while:

  • Um - apart from shampoo and conditioner I use nothing in my hair.
I was hoping this topic would be an opportunity for me to refer people to my all-time favourite hair product, the flowbee

I use plain old soap, the cheap stuff from Aldi.
It serves me well, and I get compliments on how healthy my hair looks :/ go figure.

  • This is what I use http://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/72048/Schwarzkopf-Taf… though I always buy on specials, cw is funny with there pricing lol.
I ride a bicycle (the Ozbargain way ;) so I wear a helmet, and this holds well, my main reason for buying this one is because it's cheapest stuff I could find =)

American Crew and Muk. Easy to wash out and isn't greasy at all.

Bought a Muk package at Hairhouse Warehouse DFO which included a small and large one for $24

    • I'll give this a go next time, thank you.

  • Thanks everyone - Tried the $9.00 woolies moose-head option first. Then going to try the American Crew :) (due to ease of availability) and then will keep trying the others until I find something that works for me.

  • This place has the best tape in Hair Extensions is any of you get over short hair. https://www.facebook.com/SHE-Hair-Extensions-Australia-30106… 😊

  • I really like the products by au.threelittlewords.com - all of the products are sulphate and paraben free, Australian made, plus they have a 60% off sale on right now. tlw. products are stocked mostly in America (Walgreens stores, Freepeople, Birchbox) and they're really good!
