Contract of Sale from Toyota Dealership - Things to Note

Straight forward sale cash, no finance required from a Toyota Dealership.

Is there any part of the contract that can be twisted by the sales guy or these contracts are pretty much standard/straight forward?

As long as it's the right model etc… it shouldn't be risky missing some misleading line on the contract right?

First time buying a car and have made a deposit, so want to make sure all's good.

Contract of Sale from Toyota Dealership - Things to Note

    OBVIOUSLY READ IT!

Why are people failing at basics recently?

    • Thanks for your answers.

    • I know, right? Pay deposit, sign contract, get on forum and ask if it's above board… too late by now. People need to read the contract before they put pen to paper. Bit hard to slam the gate after the horse has bolted.

      • 3 days cooling off if i recall correctly.

I think with most contracts like this, there is always a cooling off period. Each state is different, but I know that there is usually a fee involved. In NSW I don't think there is a cooling off period but you can get out of the contract with a penalty of $250 or 2%, what ever is less. In Qld, I think it is similar, but you get a 1 day cooling off. It can also vary on new vs used cars and I know in some states, motorcycle purchases have a zero cooling off period…

As for 3 days, don't know what state you are in that gets 3 days cooling off period on a car sale.
Edit: Appears as though Vic has a 3 day cooling off period.

Qld Cooling off laws for vehicles.
NSW Cooling off laws for vehicles.
Vic cooling off for New and Used vehicles.

        • @pegaxs:

similar to real estate contracts, thanks for this!

Read your contract and understand it.
If you have questions you can ask the dealer to clarify.

Failing that take your contract to your solicitor.

    Check the numbers on contract.
When i bought my car, the finance lady told me 9% interest rate. I signed believing her and it was 11.5%, which I read after 2 months. I was naive with Australian business then. Now I don't believe what they say without checking on papers.

Yep. Check numbers (inc. total price) . Also check that any accessories agreed upon are there, and the terms for delivery date (not that I imagine there would be much of a delay delivering a standard Toyota).

Should always read the contract of what you're signing, never assume, make it a habit. Unless you want to waste time in court, arguing and calling every day.

  • Ask for one of their umbrellas, they are REALLY good.. serious

  • what a goldmine! thanks to everyone who provided links, advise and freebie ideas - I've got 2 massive golf umbrellas from the 2 investment properties I got over the last 5 years - is this how people really close deals these days, with an umbrella! ha!

To everyone who assumed we did not read the contract, we did of course, sorry if we did not make it clear enough, I just wanted OZB specific key points. We have not signed the contract, just paid the deposit - kinda used that to haggle for a good price - missed mentioning that!

The only part that kinda raised my left eyebrow a bit is where it says the price may go up based on the retail price but I presume they'll have to draft a new contract in cases like that.

Everything else looks pretty good and straight forward.

    Cheers again!

    • I don't know how/why you paid a deposit but didn't sign any contract… :/

And I already had a discussion about price rises a while ago with a moron in another thread. It really only applies to new cars that are ordered with long wait times and the dealer has to notify you in writing and you have to accept the rise in price. They just can't say to you when you pick up, oh, by the way, we need another $xxxx because your car went up in price…

But, seeing as though you left a deposit but didn't sign anything, I don't know how that would apply to you. I hope you at least got a receipt for your deposit…
