From the app description:

"The best YouTube experience around."

"myTube is a YouTube app built to keep your video playing no matter what. By lightly fading the video into the background, you can continue to watch while you read comments, browse channels and videos, and everything else you can do in the app. If you can do something in the app, then you can do it while watching a video!"

"myTube even can play the audio of videos in the background while you use another app ;)"

This app is awesome! Better than the official YouTube app google make.

Google makes a Youtube app for windows? Or do you mean other platforms?

      • Yeah I meant compared to their app on other platforms.

        • +1

That's what I assumed. Just wanted confirmation in case there is one that I don't know about.

          @Harshad:

Fair enough, I never nagged your comment if that what you thought.

        • +1

@Harshad: They destroyed the one for windows phones, it's now just a link to youtube and uses the default web browser on your phone to display stuff….

    • Yep no ads

  • WTF !! I cannot login on to my office Win7 PC and get it first.

    • +1

      Windows 10….

      • +4

I have Windows 10 at home but why can't they let me purchase it from anywhere.

        • Fair enough.
I suppose the drawback of stopping those that don't understand system requirements from buying things they can't use is that those familiar have a couple of hurdles.

        • @rekabkram:

They should remember my login and what devices I have like Android.

Windows mobile still have so many thing to learn from Android. After years they still can't get handwriting/voice input like Android.

  • Such a good app - one of those standouts that is a must have. Experience on Windows 10 Mobile was very good.

    • Agreed, this was a fantastic app when I was using windows phone.

Anyone know of an Android TV YouTube app that disables Autoplay?

    So freaking annoying.

  • +1

looking for an android equivalent which plays youtube even after the phone is locked

Using snaptube witch downloads the videos with wifi pretty good for the kids if you dont like using data

      • Thanks for the recommendation!

    • +2

PVSTAR+ which can be found in Amazon app store, can access your youtube list and play all songs in the background, its also can be configured to use cache and by that does not requires mobile data.

    • Youtube Red/Google Play Music Subscription also lets you do that, if you'd find use in GPM that is. Not that good if it's the personal plan ($11/month) but family plan split with 6 people is $18/month which works out pretty well.

      • +1

ogyoutube is another app, it's pretty much YouTube red for free. I use that, but unfortunately the developer can't update it anymore.

    • maybe firetube on the Amazon store does that?

    • Awesome tube in windows store is good

    • +2

Firefox allows continuous play when locked or minimised

  • When I get redirected to the Windows Store App to purchase the app, the price is $1.45. Is that happening for anyone else? Am I looking at the store in a different region?

    Thanks for the post OtherSon.

Edit: this is for Windows 8. Tried on a Win 10 machine and it is free. Please add Win 10 to title.

  • +1

I think this is for win 10 only, I have win 8 and it wants to charge me. Please add to title win 10

    • But then on webpage says win 8. Idk

      • +1

Ah I read in small print, "discount applies to win 10 only". I will try on my win 7 PC.

        • +1

This is the new uwp app, so only for windows 10. Uwp are only are compatible with 10.

    • Windows 10 phone too

  • -2

Free on Win 7, but not compatible with device haha

    • trolling? cant get on win 7 pc. how?

  • Never heard of this and just used it. Awesome!
Thanks very much for the heads up.

I have used the app for 3+ years. Dev did a poll within the previous app (v2) on whether to make it free or paid (different prices were included as poll lists) when he releases the new v3 update. Based on the poll, he made it free with an option to donate from within the app. After using v3 for a couple of days, I have to say its significantly better than the previous one. Considered a donation too since the first time round I got it for free.

So this app is sorta like the youtube app on phones. The exception (so far, please tell me if there are other functions), is that you can download both video and audio for later viewing.

    • Background playback as mentioned in the deal. If you minimize the app, the audio continues playing. I don't think the phone apps for YouTube on ios and android do that. Plus I like the way it does seeking of a video. Simply slide anywhere on the video to seek the video. Finally, no ads. Though this is a controversial feature since creators miss out on revenue.

      • True, but I dont have win 10 on my phone anyways :P

        • I was simply saying that the official YouTube apps don't do that since you were comparing it to the phone apps. Wasn't implying you have windows 10 on your phone.

        • I only said sorta. I was hoping that the app was something like transparency window option so that you can do things with the video as 50% transparent.

That said, I can do the above with a program I used for streaming (as a streamer, not watching).

      • Actuallly it does if you have Youtube Red from the monthly subscription

    Just a note:

All saved video files are in
    User\Videos\myTube

All saved audio files are in
    User\Videos\myTube\DASH

The audio files can be played by changing the .dasha extension to .mp3

    • Another note:

720p (and 360p) videos are saved as the standard .mp4 format which I have been transferring to my phone. For the other resolutions, the audio and video files are saved separately.

I pressed the home button while playing a music video and I was impressed. I then pressed the lock button and song continue to play.
    S*** just got real

This is something I've been looking for a while now for those 1-hour gym motivational songs. Thanks OP!

Works flawlessly on my Lumia 950xl.

    • There is zero delay! Previous version had like a 2s gap when it switched to background player.

  • Thanks OP, just what I have been after for my WP10!

  • Bought this app some time last year, no regrets paying as it's a great app.

Only issue was that I couldn't find an option to autoplay saved videos one after the other, used the built in video player instead which does have the option.

  • This is brilliant, background music playback is possible during gameplay, queue a track or playlist and game on!

  • If I install this on one Win10 machine now, will I be able to install it on other machines after the free period without having to pay for it? I don't know if the Windows store works the same way as Apple and Android stores.

  • says - Contains in-app purchases
    what extras does it sell?

    • Presumably the donations mentioned above

  • is it available for laptop and desktop ?

  • Is it any good on Xbox One? eg can I watch videos PBP style whilst gaming?

  • I'm still using windows 7, LoL
Am i missing out on anything?

    • Nope. Windows 7 browser is more then perfect. This is mainly tailored for Windows 10 phone and Xbox

    • +4

Windows 10 is incredible, once you've used it you won't want to go back IMO.

  • Best app ever, much better than using their website or own app.
