For a limited time the blizzard store is discounting overwatch both Standard and GOTY version
Standard is $44.95 from $69.95
Game of the Year $54.95 from $89.95
The game of the year version is new and has replaced the origins edition and now includes 10 loot boxes plus the previous origins rewards.
The game is currently having its anniversary event so no better time to join.

Besides the loot boxes and skins what is the difference in the game of the yeae edition? You're still playing the same game?
There's no pay to win content in overwatch. All new maps/weapons etc are free for everyone.
You also get vanity items for other Blizzard games.
The GOTY edition is the original "origins" (deluxe) edition + 10x loot boxes.
Additional 3-4 skins in game plus collectibles in other blizz games. Tracer, reaper, widow &76. From what I remember:
Wow: baby Winston battle pet
D3: overwatch portrait + mercy wings
Hearthstone : overwatch cardback
Heroes of the storm: tracer hero
Star craft: portraits? (Only bliz title I dont play sorry)
This is cheaper if you change the region of your battle.net page to EU instead.
No need for VPN, just replace US with EU in your browser. Standard edition goes down to 20 EUR which is about $30 AUD

I COULD be wrong, but I think you can upgrade the standard edition to GoTY with $10 USD or so after you purchase the Standard edition.
I've had Overwatch for a year so I might try this to upgrade my standard edition to GoTY

Yes, Overwatch is Region-Free. My initial purchase of Overwatch was from the TW Battle.net store, and I play on the Australia (AMERICAS region) servers.
Can you confirm this is the cheapest region?

I wouldn't say the 10 loot boxes on its own is worth the GOTY edition, since you earn a lootbox per level up in Overwatch and there's no limit to how many times you can level up.
If you want the Origin skins that come with the GOTY edition in addition to the loot boxes, then it's worth it. If you purchase the standard edition from the EU battle.net shop for 20 EUR, you can upgrade it to GOTY for $10 AUD from the US Battle.net

If you create a Mexico battle.net account you can get it for MXN399 for standard and MXN499 (~AUD35) for GOTY and gift it to your actual battle.net account which is the cheapest so far.
Anyone verified this yet? What of the international transaction fee costs?
Everytime I try to gift it, it won't accept Paypal, it says Please correct the errors below and try again. When I try to buy it normally though, it works with Paypal. Can anyone help me?
Edit: Okay, figured out with help from live chat. You just have to add paypal as a payment method to your account itself. That way it should be fine and you can gift it to yourself.

According to reddit, Argentina region gets priced at 299 or 399 ARS which is around $24.90 or $33.25 AUD
You can't "gift" with Argentina battle.net account, so unless you are happy with another account, Mexico is the cheapest you can gift to your real account.

How beginner friendly is this game on PC? I have hundreds of hours of TF2 and loads of other online shooters, but would be starting this obviously with no idea what the classes strengths/weaknesses are for a good number of hours. Would this result in nothing but matches where people are barking down the mic at me for letting the team down? :)
It's pretty newbie friendly. Doesn't take a lot to learn each hero's skills, and you can always turn off voice chat if you want to :)
Dude if you have hundreds of hours of TF2 you're well ahead of a 'beginner'. I'm buying it this weekend too because the TF2 community is too toxic for me.
The community likely wont abuse you or anything like that but you probably wont do very well until you have spent some time playing as several heroes. Being a good shot doesn't mean anywhere near as much as knowing how each hero works and who is the rock to your scissors.

Happened to me as well when I bought it last night but it has been processed and I have it in my main account now. They said that it might take up to 72 hours to process the transaction.
