EDIT: I retract my poor review of the Kambrook rice cooker. Seems my experience was probably due to a faulty cooker :)

Pasta makers are so often "re gifted" — no one wants to use one! Pasta is about $1/500g (or even more for Gluten Free varieties!!!). They would be giving them away because no one would be buying them :P

    • +4

Homemade pasta is so much nicer though :)

      Thanks for posting Jiggles :)

Yes agreed, making pasta is a tedious process at best, you'll go in to it with great enthusiasm, but I can almost guarantee it will never come out of the box again.

Still, this would make a great cheap gift for someone!

Oh, the Kambrook Rice cookers are fine….they make great rice, just remember to rinse the rice first, and use the ratio of 1:1.5 rice to water.

    • Regifted? No way! Pasta makers are awesome. I use my one all the time. Like 7Alice7 said, homemade pasta is so much nicer. They're a versatile and multipurpose tool to have in the kitchen. From Fettuccini to Lasanga sheets and if you tweak the recipe you can make asian style noodles. I also use them to make gyoza skins (I suck at using a cleaver to flat them down right). I even used it to make some roti once! The list is endless really =)

That is a bargain - thanks for posting jiggles, and for going to the trouble to work out the cheapest items in the catalogue. +1 for your effort.

  • good bargain. only 2 days left, though

  • Actually, I've never come across a cheap rice cooker that didn't do it's job properly (including the Kambrook one) and I have used a lot of rice cookers living with various Asian families over the years. As long as you put the right ratio of water:rice in they are fine. I know a family that uses one very heavily - and it's great.

For me, 3 parts water, 2 parts rice. Almost impossible to get wrong.

    • My friend had one which is what I was basing it off but maybe the problems were just limited with his own cooker. I tried following Kambrook's specified measurements to the T, using a little more water, using a little less, and in all cases the rice never cooked through and were rock hard no matter how long you left it to cook. It was odd. I'm an asian who eats rice almost every day and I haven't had problems with any other cookers I've used :S

      • maybe the problems were just limited with his own cooker

This sounds more likely … I'm sure these thing come out of the same factory, the heating element in these things look identical no matter what brand you buy.

      • i've heard from friends about this fool proof trick: 1 cup of water for 1 cup of rice.

i normally use my palm as my measuring instrument. so i fill up the pot with uncooked rice and water, then put my palm in and pressed it against the bottom of the pot. the water should cover my fingers and about 2 inches away from my wrist. i know, hard to picture, but it's a trick my nanna taught me! always work for me in any rice cooker. i get white fluffy rice all the time. i suppose the type of rice plays a role too. it's harder to get the right texture for basmati rice.

The amount of water is depend on the amount of rice, though every rice cooker might cook slightly different, but they're quite similar, the rice is the one making big difference… I bought this rice cooker before, nothing wrong, it can cook rice as good as the expensive one, the only negative for me back then, is that the non-stick layer started peeling off after 1 month, which probably just because we got faulty unit (ended up returning it to goodguys and they accepted that). So, IMHO, it's the non-stick layer that probably differs between cheap and expensive one (I'm now using the one without non-stick :)))

  • There is a citrus juicer there, 3 items underneath the rice cooker for $19.95.

So is this deal just for SA?

EDIT: Nevermind, wrong catalogue. Rice cooker is cheaper and this deal is available nationwide it appears.

    • The citrus juicer is in the "Household Deals" catalogue - you have to go into the "Healthy Home" catalogue (click the Healthy Home tab above the catalogue when you go through the link.)

I can't confirm it's at all stores but I did try changing my store to Oxley QLD and they do have it. The T&Cs also state that the 500 claims is nationwide so it might be all stores.

      • Ah, OK. Apologies.

Appears to be valid in VIC as well (Well South Wharf anyway).

No worries and thanks for editing my post title/content to make it clearer to readers :)

    • .

  • Just a reminder. Good Guy Erina has a no-refund policy of changing your mind, even though you keep the good in the original package status. Not a happy seller to deal with.

  • good deal
19.95 you can get TEAC CLOCK RADIO. sounds this one is quite cheap to go or did i miss anything here ?

    • The clock radio is in the "September Range" catalogue - you have to go into the “Healthy Home” catalogue (click the Healthy Home tab above the catalogue when you go through the link.)

Unfortunately this means that your choices are limited to kitchen appliances, kitchen appliances and more kitchen appliances. Oh and vacuum cleaners too :P

  • Anyone know if this works for online purchase, pick up in store?

  • Appears in the Auburn (NSW) store tab as well…

  • I have the Kambrook rice cooker and i think it's quite good. I got it for $19 (3 months ago) at Kmart, this was the cheapest i'd seen it for so i think $23 plus less if you pay cash + free pasta machine is quite a good deal. Unfortunately, i have no space for my appliances even as potential gifts! But very awesome deal.

  • I think the rice turning out well has a lot to do with how you cook the rice. 1 cup rice to 1.5 cups of water i've been told is a good ratio. I kinda do it by sight in the rice cooker, i think i do double/a little under.

  • D'oh…
I rushed to TGG during lunch time, picked up an mixer and filled the online claim form. Now I found out, the mixer it not on the Healthy Home Catalogue….
    Arghhhhhhhhhh….

  • Thanks for the post! Just bagged myself a rice cooker. Mind you mum bought 3 a couple months ago and two of them are sitting in the garage haha!

  • The same rice cooker is half price at woolies in case you are interested. Comes down to be $17.50. No pasta maker of course.

    • +1

Go ask for the 30days price gurantee.

  • Did anyone try buying online (store pick up) and claim the pasta maker already? Does it works?

  • damn. just bought Panasonic microwave on Sunday. :(

  • Nice find. Just bought a Kambrook toaster $28.74. Had problem submitting the online and called customer service. Turned out that you need to use IE, instead of firefox. The guy told me it takes six weeks to receive the offer.

Just curious, did you receive an email after you registered?

    • Thanks for the heads up on Firefox. Google Chrome browser also works which is what I used. After submitting the claim they did send me an email confirmation.

    • Got an confirmation email right away

      • Haven't received an email. Called again and was assured that my registration has gone through. Well hope everything is fine.

    • The guy told me it takes six weeks to receive the offer.

You will have it before November 5

  • Do you have to make the purchase in store or online purchase is acceptable too?

  • Wow they are going fast… 339 left. It was 448 when I went out to buy mine a bit over 2hrs ago.

  • +1

I got this pasta maker and luckily I got to claim one of the $30 itunes cards as well!!!

On another note, talked them down to $397 for Dyson DC29 as well.

    Good Guys Belconnen! =)

    • So you were able to claim both? I read the T&C for the itunes one and it does say "not valid with any other promo".

  • Hm doesn't seem to want to process my claim.

  • so anyone know if we can buy online or not? would you have a docket no. when u buy online?

  • No docket number given when buying online. If you ring to get it, the number won't work until the item is physically dispatched ie picked-up!

    • thanks rodzy, too bad I dont live near any goodguys… :(

  • needed a rice cooker, perfect!
managed to pick up the kambrook one for $22, not $22.95

  • It says 'first 500' only. How would you know if you qualify! No point wasting $$$ and time only to find out you won't qualify.

    • Uh, there's a number next to the deal, as of 5PM on the 8th, there are 88 remaining.

  • Thanks very much for posting! Bought a rice cooker- needed one anyway.

    hurry guys! Only 49 left!

  • Did anyone have trouble applying with the rice cooker in the catalogue?
I got an "sorry this doesn't qualify because it doesn't meet the minimum spend requirement" :(

I did only pay $19.95 in cash for it, though not sure if that matters.

    • You should call them up about that. Nowhere in the T&Cs do they state a minimum spend requirement. Try to contact them as soon as you can because there's only 11 left :(

  • All gone!

    • 15/9 there is a second round of machines available (14 left)!

  • Anyone received it yet?

    • I think you suppose to get it before 15 Oct… Still 2 weeks. Be patient

      • Ah ok, thanks for that. For some reason I thought it was before 5 Oct.

        • Well it's the 12th now….and still no sign of it here!

          • +1

@ash2000: The T&Cs stated 5th of November is the latest you should receive it by.
