So I had a business trip to Indonesia and when I got to the airport I felt sick and unwell to board so I decided not to risk it and take the next flight.
I paid for the next flight same airline etc but bit more expensive than I thought, Im and I was happy to pay for the flight but can or should my company pay for it? Thoughts?
As I said I take the blame but just out of curiosity
Missed my business trip fight

Well, they could also say yes…
This isn't something OZB would know the answer to lol
YES WE WILL KNOW THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if you've noticed…
Oh never mind.Oh I have…
Insurance?
generally need proof of sickness.
As above, ask your company. It will really depend on whether they say yes or no, Ozbargain wont be able to answer this for you as it would be determined on the company policy probably on a case by case basis
All good friends I ask them hope I get money back for bargain hunting
Your company should pay for it, if you were unwell then they should respect that. A doctor's note would help your cause.
Thanks I was all fine a day before the flight and didn't go to the Dr after my arrival .. Don't have Dr note :/
If you happy to pay for it, then case closed.
Usually, just ask the airline to move you to the next flight. That is why businesses pay for more flexible fares.
Not the post-GFC day and age - lots of companies have gone down the route of changing their travel policies so that the cheapest flight on their "peferred" airlines has to be selected.
Between myself and my friends at other companies, it seems common that the outbound flight is always on the cheapest flight (which usually means non-flexible) and the return flight is booked on a flexible ticket in case meetings go over time or something has happened causing the traveler to require the changing of tickets.
Quite a smart policy, I think.
Not sure why you didn't go to a GP…?At least that way you have proof you weren't well.
I'd say ask, but without doctor proof how do they know you didn't just sleep in?
So you fight for the trip or what?
Business trip fight?
Didn't know United flew to IndonesiaThe first rule of fight club is no one mentions fight club.
However, I would talk to your work and see what they think; no harm in trying. I would've just gone to the check in desk at the time and explained the situation - they may have moved you to the next flight for no charge. The airline would probably prefer you don't fly sick in case you are contagious and it can certainly may cause you damage to fly if you have a heavy cold etc.
u should have informed your company about your sickness before making any decision.
You should have spoken to the airline and asked for their suggestion. If they suggested to wait for the next one, they would have probably squeezed you in without any extra charge.
What's your status with the airline? I once missed a domestic business flight out and it wasn't a flexible fare - I must have been deep in thought in the lounge and didn't hear the boarding call. Anyway, because I had gold status, I just went back to the lounge and they put me on the next flight without any extra charge.
Reschedule the bout.
If you think about it from the employer's point of view, it almost sounds like you were just late to the airport and missed your flight.
I'd like to think that the employer would cover your additional ticket, but you're going to get different answers from different companies. So there's no real point asking here.
The thing that would help your case would've been to contact your boss at the time you were at the airport and not feeling well to tell him that you're not boarding. Then let your boss know later that you're about to buy a new flight with your own funds.
But it's a bit late if you haven't already done that.
So how hungover were you?
Your mobile and email weren't working to ask the question before changing flight arrangements?
Mod plz close the thread
ask your company - they can only say no
