Melbourne - What To Do For 9 Days?

Hi, im in Melbourne for 9 days and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of things I should do while here?

Last night I had a gelato 1.5 Pepsi cans high! Lol.

  • Haha, that gelato sounds awesome. What are you into so we know what to suggest?

  • Art gallery. It's free too

    • Not everything at the NGV is free, like the Van Gogh exhibition

  • Do a bus tour out to the Yarra Valley, you can find them online and they generally leave from Fed square.

Will take you to a few wineries or breweries, cheese makers, chocolate makers, fun day out and beautiful part of the world.

Also maybe a trip out to great ocean road and back via the Otways

    Melbourne is food heaven.
    a) Go to Lune Croissants - Rose St Fitzroy - the weekends are a nightmare so your best best is after 8:00 on Monday, Thursday or Friday.
    b) I recommend Nyala - in Brunswick St, Fitzroy if you like African food - have the mixed entrees, mixed meat and mixed vegetarian dishes. Get to taste a lot of different flavours. The advantage is it is BYO.
    c) Messani Gelato in Smith St, Fitzroy. See what is on special or try one of the "usuals"
    d) Hell of the North in Fitzroy is also good, if a bit more expensive.
    e) One of my favourite things to do, if the weather is good, is to start at Victoria Pde, walk through the Fitzroy gardens, past the MCG, across the Yarra and then through the Botanic Gardens. That gets you across to South Yarra and you can look at the restaurants over there.
    f) The NGV is worth wandering through.
    g) If you want to look at shopping go to the DFO at South Wharf - opposite the Casino and walk down past the river.
    h) have a look at the shows we currently have on, you might find something you fancy. There are a number of Information booths and the "shard" in fed square also has a tourist guide place.

Have a great time in Melbourne and have a look at Zomato for options.

There's a video game bar called Bartronica in the CBD if you like games
Collingwood has a burger joint called Easey's, where burgers are served in an old train 5 stories up
There's some graffiti laneways with colorful artwork
Go see a cheap show? http://www.halftixmelbourne.com/ has cheap tickets

Me, I like to go where I'm not supposed to, so if you want any recommendations on dilapidated buildings to explore pm me

Don't tend to do this sort of thing myself but this news article might give you some ideas.

      • Maybe you should? It can be quite a thrill

As it happens I went there just this year to check it out, but melbourne water have dammed it upstream so that the entrance is perpetually flooded. I was thinking of going back there with an inflatable raft though, so.. let me know if you spot any deals? Haha ;)

No probs. Unlikely I will do anything like this as I am shit scared of spiders.

Actually, we converted an old warehouse in Fitzroy so I can see the attraction to old rundown buildings.

Not suggestion you go in but this site might also be interesting.

I've seen it on the road between Melbourne and Geelong - interesting building it is a bit sad it has been abandoned. The site has some interesting pictures.

The US has some really interesting abandoned sites; including old amusement parks.

thought this might interest you as well.

Enjoy your stay and keep out of trouble :)

        • @try2bhelpful:

I've wondered about that mill. Its settled: I shall explore it!

        • @outlander: Keep safe.

  • Remember Half tix also sell bus tours half price if bought day prior. Grampians trip great value and can go to Sovereign Hill but may be cheaper on train and then free bus. Phillip Island and penguins interesting but can be cold so rug up.

If you're into musicals, the Book of Mormon and Aladdin are both playing and are great shows.

Book of Mormon is general sold out 2 weeks in advance though, so you could sign up for their pre-show lottery and try win front row seats for $40 each.

    • Do you have a URL for the lottery - I would be interested in looking into that.

      • Yep, it's here http://bookofmormonmusical.com.au/40-lottery-ticket-policy-a…

Only downside is you need to be at the theatre to sign up and win, but if you're just hanging around the city you could do it whenever you're nearby.

Thanks for the heads up; I live roughly 10-15 minutes walk away from the theatre so I could pick a couple of quiet nights and have a shot at it.
