Amazon Package Contents Stolen by Auspost

Hi Guys,

So my package from amazon got obviously stolen. Regardless of what the plastic wrap says, the package was cleanly cut, like with a blade. Literally nothing enclosed so that statement is funny.
Amazon package well and from well over 20 other items, nothing has been close to 'accidentally' tearing.

It was a fitbit bangle, so not cheap and a great item for someone to steal.
I should have known something was fishy when it got randomly redirected for an extra day away from my local area.

What is my best course of action? Complain to auspost, get amazon to lodge the complaint?
It was purchased from amazon using 28 degrees. I have buyers protection but i'm not sure that applies to stolen goods. More when the price drops i believe.

Both - Auspost will give you something unreasonable, Amazon will be very accommodating.

I actually had this happen, stated delievered and wasnt, put in a complaint. They sent me a generic email then 2 months later rang me back, I guess they realised the item was insured then magically cared about it.
I suggest emailing Aus Post with full details.

Contact Amazon first as Australia Post will only frustrate and irritate you with the amount of nothing they will do for you.

If you email Amazon, spend a moment to reread your message. The way you have worded your post here is very confusing.
It isn't clear, for example, why you think it was Auspost rather than USPS who damaged/cut your envelope.
For the record, it seems weird a post employee would jeopardise their job and risk criminal prosecution to steal a Fitbit.

    • Yes this was written in haste and anger, but im certain its Auspost. I wont copy paste this to amazon.

As mentioned the package was following the usual route just like every other one from amazon. Suddenly, 2 days ago it got diverted away from my local area and was basically in limbo for 2 days.

I live 10 mins from the chullura depot. I have never seen any of my packages (without issue), hang around granville/strathfield for 3 days.

Sounds more like it was spotted as opened and sent to be checked. How would a theif organise to reroute your parcel?

      • chullura depot

Chullora is the main pc in nsw. It outgrew its current location a few years ago and had to split. Articles are now sorted from chullora and Potts hill. There are CCTV overlooking every corner of both depots. It's not impossible to steal articles, but unlikely to happen within the depots.

    • If you read the news, a lot of post employees steal packages. Just google it and see.

I'm a pretty avid news reader, but I did google it.
There was a story of a Broken hill postman convicted in early 2016, and another from Kempsey in 2015.
Seems like pretty isolated incidents, which were investigated thoroughly and people doing the wrong thing losing their jobs and being prosecuted.
So I maintain it seems quite rare and a high risk for something like a fitbit.

  • What does the wording on the plastic bag with the Australia Post logo actually say?

(Well not "Stolen by Australia Post" I'm sure)

    • Strange the image quality lowers on mobile. Its readable on a pc.

Basically that it might have inadvertently opened or been damaged by machines etc.

        "article was not properly sealed"

        AP have blamed Amazon.

  • Just let Amazon know and they will send another one.

  • So an update on this.
Amazon were as usual, very gracious and have sent out a replacement. Hopefully it does not touch Ausposts hands because….they are clowns.
When I asked in the post office how to lodge a claim, they said I need to do it online. The online rep has now told me I should have showed the package at the PO, and filled out a form there.

Funnily enough, here is the tracking details from a different package, from a different origin country.
Mskeggs seems to have alot of faith in auspost employees. The below package is of even less value than a fitbit bracelet ($170 aud here btw).

More auspost fun for me it seems.
