Doxing Restaurants Based on One Sided Stories

Just thought I'd bring this up as it's happening right now and I think it's something that should be addressed.

OP posts this:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/307674

And then ozbargainers, based on a one-sided story, start doxing the google page and the zomato page.

I don't have any affiliation either way, but we gotta feel a bit of sympathy for this restaurant. Who knows what actually happened and they haven't had the opportunity to let anyone know their side of the story.

Should we, as a community, be allowing this? How can we stop it?

  • Who cares? It's completely gamed to hell to the point of being utterly worthless, a few incidents being reported that may or may not be fake makes no difference.

The sooner the people realise this the better because at the moment we have the laughable situation of people coming on here explaining how they have magical powers and therefore can divine which reviews are fake and which are not and then they use the "non-fake" reviews to form an opinion.

    Which is ludicrous.

    • You summed it up perfectly Diji. No one I know writes reviews on business's, but a lot of them will check reviews before going somewhere. Not only that, they think it's an absurd waste of time to write a review. Ludicrous indeed

In two weeks, probably much less, nobody will be able to remember the name of the restaurant. I wouldn't get too worried about it. The OP probably feels they were treated poorly and was letting off steam; if the restaurant is generally good then the good reviews will far outweigh the bad ones. Finding organic "foreign substances" in my food is pretty much a deal breaker for me going back to a restaurant, and I tend to remember the reported local ones that have been fined by the health department, but I generally look for a negative or positive trend in the reviews.

I think you should look at the person telling the story. TLOS has made several posts and thousands of comments, which reduces the chance of him being a corporate saboteur to very low, while the fact he does share things every now and then means he's an alright person some of the time (although this post suggest he is/was impressionable and not above deluding himself for economic gain)

Based on that I would not create a fake review for him, but I would still take his side over a low end chinese restaurant

    • I admit that I am a person of principles, and I donated all that money to Victims of Violence. I am certainly not out for financial gain, I'd rather get my money from working which pays much better than being a tightass.

      • Well your stock just went up a little in my books. Now I'd be willing to post a fake review for you, but it'd be a short one
