  • +4

Hmmm I wonder if UHD is included

    • +4

second this …Does this apply for 4k movies as well ?

    • +3

UHD is a blu ray so I don't see why not. No mention in the exclusions.

    • +10

Can confirm 4K (and 3D) is included.

      • +1

Time to get them 4K,s :)

    • +4

I'll wait for the HD-DVD sale thanks

  • Only 18-21 so I don't think they will do the 20% off at the same time.

    • +1

Might get lucky and get a VIP email coupon for a further 5-10% off

  • +2

Perhaps register a new mailbox then subscribe JB newsletter for the 10% off coupon?

*Cheapest One Free. Trade Not Supplied, Maximum Of 2 Copies Of The Same Title In The Same Transaction. Exclude Pre-Orders, Devices & Blank Media.

      • -1

It doesn't appear to exclude box sets either.

Is a boxed set a single title or not ?

  • -4

Reckon we can get PS4/Xbone games included on a technicality?

    • Nope. I tried and failed.

      • +1

        How?
        Sale starts tomorrow

  • +1

Good deal - been looking to pick up Logan (such a great movie) which I thought was going be released mid May but looks like its start of June. Still, plenty of other options out there

  • Is it just me or have prices for some TV shows/movies gone up at JB over the past few months? I've been keeping my eye on a few TV series and I swear the prices went up.

E.g. I was walking through JB on Saturday to check out their 20% off DVD/Bluray sale and found a copy of David Attenborough's "Planet Earth - The Collection" (I + II series) complete bluray boxset that was the marked for $29.95, as of Mar 2017, which I thought was exceptionally cheap. However, I noticed that the (same) boxset behind it was marked at $59.95, as of Apr 2017. When I went to the counter to buy the item (really to see what the real product price was), the checkout person was shocked to find the price discrepancy between the item and their system but let the sale through (score!). Sadly for everyone out there, another staff member was alerted of this and they initiated a checking exercise to make sure that all products with price changes were updated across the store….

    • I have often seen different marked prices on many things at JB, has been happening for years. Blurays especially. Normally they tell me it's hard to keep all price tags up to date blah blah blah.

Only last week I advised that several other stores had the same OLED TV for $800 less… to which he changed the tag.

Was looking at the box set of 'The Hobbit Trilogy Extended' on the weekend and today looked and the price has jumped! All including the dvd versions have increased in price. No mention of being on sale so are JBHIFI doing what lot of eBay stores are doing and jacking the price up before a sale starts? Or has there been a price increase due to the dollar/whatever?

As example: The dvd set was under $70 ($67.00 I think) and today $85.

      • If you can combine with other boxet will make kt cheap. I got this one with 3d version combined with Star War boxset last year, at the end less than $60 each.

        • Yeah need to get another boxset and wasn't planning on getting anything else. Would make it a bargin If i can though… ;)

      • Were you checking online? There was a 20% off sale last weekend, and the prices on the online store would have shown the price with the lowered 20% discount.

        • Might explain it but there no 'Sale' images anywhere on the page (that I could see or I didn't take notice) so I assumed it was regular price. If it was the sale price then its my bad. Thanks! :)

    • some people swap the price sticker from the cheaper item, normally they still charge the price on the system, because they know some people cheat.

      • there's item number on the sticker, so they know if u swap it.

    • +1

Yep, the Blu-Ray movies I have been watching have all increased in price.

I've gone through all 5,288 (inc 3D) listed Blu-Ray movies and the prices have increased on most of the "decent" films and the same for TV series Blu-Rays. But if you can find a similar priced item that you want then the "discounted" BOGOF price has been generally cheaper.

Sorry, far to many to list that I checked. 😜

      • +1

        phew

I also went through the lot as well! Hahahaha….5692 items to be precise…..that's 159 pages to read, good thing I have free time today! ……only took me a few hrs to go through the entire catalog, all the whilst also googling for some of them for some better idea if they're the kind of stuff for me or not…..had to take a few breaks inbetween….lol….also apparently after having a certain number of tabs open(has happened before but this is the 10th time that has happened), firefox just glitches out and crashes which confirms my suspicion……….must be the 32-bit version limitation or something else…..I should try out the 64-bit version since I'm on a 64-bit OS….should be more stable…….hopefully…

ahh, my fingers……they need like an option to like show all items on display(that's relevant of course, so we don't want non-sale items in the mix as well, or else I bet that'll double or even triple that figure!) and all you have to do is just scroll down and down until you get to the next item and then finally the last item on the list, rather than click for the next 36 lot 159 times and on top of that, clicking for further information on any items that caught your interest………….

        • Holy periods, Batman……
The additional tabs are separate processes, which consume memory. 32 bit OS's can only address ~4gb of memory. Fairly reasonable to assume this is the cause.

        • @iMagoo: Oh is it? I thought tabs were on the same process as the main firefox.exe……only chrome and opera has that feature, because I still only see one firefox.exe image in Process Explorer even after 200 tabs opened…..yes I actually got up to there……

        • @Zachary: Apologies, you are correct. Firefox are moving to a multi-process design (slowly) and unless you have the latest version, you probably won't have the feature.

        • @iMagoo: I am on the latest version of firefox…….and they still don't have it…………………

Agree, browsing saw Doctor Strange is now $32.98 for the bog standard Blu-ray and could have sworn I paid no where near that price. Checked my account and found it was:

        Doctor Strange
        Unit Price : $23.98
Discount price "Instant Deal - 10% OFF MOVIES" Total : $21.58
        Date : 03/03/2017

Not complaining as it can still work out cheaper with a similar priced movie, but wondering are the prices trending upwards, even after sale?

        • +1

Of the ones I've tracked, yes - The Walking Dead boxset, which includes seasons 1 to 6, was $187, now $230 (oh I guess they dropped it down from $240…) ….

    • From memory Planet Earth 2 and relevant sets were subject to a temporary discount at launch, which was advertised as a limited promotion.

    • Just came back, and some prices have definitely gone up. Was looking at a bluray in the recent 20% off sale at 19.95, but in the end put it back as the line was too long. Today it was now 29.95. The three at the front of the stack were all 29.95, the one at the back was still at 19.95. I didn't bother looking for a second title, just left. Can't encourage this behaviour too much.

  • Just got a 4K tv but don't have the money for a 4K player yet, Is it worth it to get a few blurays? Or will they look the same as DVD's on a 4K tv?

    • +5

Blurays will still look excellent. The jump to 4k movies isn't very dramatic at all. Far more noticeable moving from DVD to a well done bluray.

4k movies generally always include a bluray too though btw. So if the cost isn't much more….

      • Ok good point, ill see what the differences in price is. Thanks

      • The jump is absolutely massive if you have a title/TV that is done properly in HDR with wide colour gamut.
Bigger than the jump from DVD to Blu-ray.

        • It's a different good, I don't think it's much better though. DVD these days look pretty average on larger screens, blurays still look perfectly fine.

    • +2

Grab an Xbox One S for $300 for the best value 4K player available.

      • Thanks forgot the Xbox could do 4K, I'll probably have to wait till around Christmas till I can afford one but will keep a look out before then anyway and see what I can find.

        • +2

Just to be clear, it is Xbox One S and not the original Xbox One

Also, the upcoming Scorpio Xbox One will (99.9% certain) also do UHD 4K Blu-Rays

    • +4

Depends on size of TV and whether it has HDR

      • 50 inch and it has a type of HDR, this is it.

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

        • You'd have to be sitting very close to see the difference. 4K is really beneficial when it comes to big screens, IMO (70" up to big projector displays). People sit pretty far from their TVs, and the distance is usually too far to see the difference.

        • @edshays:

You'd have to be sitting very close to see the difference.

No, HDR and high FPS (eg. "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" at 60Hz) are very noticeable at any distance.

    • Wide range of responses. For me, some of them look like standard blurays (The accountant, Superman v Batman), some look marginally better than usual (The Revenant, Mad Max) and one looks like you've just been transported 20 years into what movies will look like in the future (Billy Lynn).

  • +3

Waiting for 20% off CDs! Fingers crossed.

  • -5

Does the offer count for ps3 and 4 games? They are bluray too. Or just movies?

    • Yes, and all movies should be the same price because they all come on the same type of disc.

  • Anyone know if the registers can pick up purchases in different price tiers? For example if I get 2 boxsets around $80 each (so $40 each after B1G1F), and then two other blu rays around say $20 (so $10 each after B1G1F), can I put these through in the same transaction. Or will it default to the two $20 blu rays being the free (cheapest) ones.

I realise it's easy enough to do two separate transactions but last time JB ran this deal I had the checkout staff make a big fuss and ask me why I wanted to do separate transactions and then had to check with her supervisor before putting it through, as if I was somehow gaming their system.

    • Just say "it's a gift" or that you're checking out for a friend ;)

      • Yeh, last time I just ended up saying I wanted to put it on two separate cards and then tapped the same card twice.

    • last time I had to do separate transactions to get the best deal.

Easiest way to avoid staff dicking you around? Order online for click and collect.

      • +2

Any reasonable staff member will put through separate transactions. It's not as if you can't approach the counter twice on the one visit.

    • +7

If all 4 item are in the one transaction the register will always automatically make the cheapest 2 free.

Protip: Split your order into two transactions. Buy the two most expensive in the one purchase and the two cheaper in the other. Staff will know exactly what you're doing and have come to expect people to be clued in on how they can maximise their saving.

    • +2

I got burned today and advise everyone to check their receipts for this. I didn't know the computer selects the cheapest disk as the freebie.

I went to the register with 10 disks, and I presented them in pairs with the same prices, so I would get one free after paying for one at the same price. The checkout staff member scanned them in the order I presented them. When I checked the receipt later on, it randomly selected the most expensive, then paired it with the cheapest. It repeated this for the rest of the transactions. I ended up paying $150 initially. I went back and complained and the manager put them through again manually for me, this time it came out to $125.

It was a bit rude for the system to sneakily process them that way I thought!

  • Wow thought id see how much a few movies i am interested in and was shocked at Antman
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on…

  • Thanks huanlin!
They had this deal once before and last time they focussed on the more expensive item when online (i.e. if you buy 2 $20 and 2 $10 movies, it came out as $40 rather than $30). So last time I had to re-eneter the store for multiple purchases to save the costs like any other OZ-Bargainer. They rarely have this deal so it's a nice one to get.

  • Nice one. I still remember last year i did spent $400 for bluray only. The price of each bluray i bought still cheaper than any deals now. You will be lucky to find some bluray with the old price tag, make it super cheap. I got all Toy Story 3D bluray new version at $8 each.

I will spend more time this year to buy more, will definitely focus on 4k bluray.

  • so what happen if I use the $20 BD&DVD JB coupon? looking to buy the planet earth II 4k and something.

    • What coupon? Please let me know :)

      • +1

It's from last time, spend $50 or more on ABC BBC HBO DVD&BD and get a $20 JB coupon, redeemable on next instore DV or BD purchase.

    • You get $20 off! :) Shouldn't be a code needed to use this deal so unless there's some T&C excluding it, you'll be fine.

  • +2

Nooooooooooo. I just purchased the box set of Breaking Bad on bluray last week for $119. And I took it out of the plastic too. Anyone know a way I can return it to get a much better deal?

    • +11

Buy it again as part of the deal with something else. Then take the unopened box set back with your original receipt (the one you paid full price) and ask for a refund :)

      • Holy crap why didn't I think of that. Is there anyway they'd be able to tell it's from a different receipt or anything?

        • +1

          Nope ;)
Has been done by many ozbargainers before. Just check the previous deals.

        • +1

@Nachotroncoso: Thank you very much. This is why I love OzBargain

        • +1

@RoostersMan: don't worry, man! We are all here to help each other save :)

      • That would classify as a "change of mind" return - does JB HiFi do it?

        • Yes they do, as long as the movies are sealed.

        • If it's still sealed I can't see why they could refuse.

        • @Yuri Lowell:
Because they'd lose money, as per Nachotroncoso's advice, above.

        • @AlexF: I said as long it was sealed.

        • @AlexF: Not really, they'd just resell the unsealed one?

        • @lainey13:
But then people would open, rip and return wouldnt they?

  • Hi guys! Anyone interested in getting Moana 3D? It's $40 for two, so we can split it for $20 each. I'll buy in Brissie CBD and we can meet here or I can post at your expense. Let me know.
