  • For Helio P10 phone I would rahter pick Sony XA ultra for $299

Then again, the Facebook report-ware is put on the Sony as a system app [non-removable] and you do have to put up with their "whats new" nag-ware and their ever more desperate attempts to leverage their Times-Warner gamble into a media ecosystem. I loved my Xperia Z as regards quality and performance, but the shitty and annoying reminders that it was intended as a consumer rather than a productivity device, with the unwanted and apparently un-stoppable [without rooting] garbage such as "a video of the highlights of your month in photos" and their monthly 21st. century equivalents of " Record of the month club" `offers finally got to aggravating.

      • Excellent comment, as someone who is at pains to find a suitable new phone I will not appreciate 'nag ware/what's new' interruptions.

I hope this is somewhat limited to Sony, thankfully they are out of the running due to your comment.

I can safely say I'm getting no unwanted garbage from my Samsung. Alas my needs have changed and it's only a basic Prime/Core model. For what it is, it's been a great little phone I must say.

        Best regards.

Vaya has the LG G4 [black only] for $379 with a 1 year Oz warranty. Its a reasonable gamble, and tho a couple of years old, no slouch and still among one of the best phone cameras going.

ObAdmission: I ordered one before tossing the deal to my fellow gannets. The again, it had just dropped $10 until yesterday. Hurry, like any tech, it will be cheaper and better next year…

@terrys: Thanks terrys, that one really is sooo close to the mark but I'm so over holding out for such a phone with B28 I've decided to do as so many do and run two phones (business and personal) until finally some reasonably priced dual sim/B28 phones come out. It really has been a nightmare doing so much research. I'm just going to hang on for a year (or two) until these requirements are somewhat common.

          Cheers,
          Chris.

        • @Chris Farley:
          Hi Chris,
A lot of research hey? I'm a bit earlier into my research stage, so can I ask why you require B28? What's so important about it? I also like the idea of a dual sim phone. Can't understand why they all aren't, I think I first owned one about 10 years ago!
          Cheers,
          Curly.

        • @curlyhart: B-28 (band 28) is apparently known for it's better ability for the bands signal to 'penetrate' buildings'. This is a relevant and important aspect for me as I need to do POS transactions and very often from within larger buildings - such as large shopping centres. I prefer to have a dual sim phone so I don't have to carry two phones. Business/work vs. personal use.

Many will agree that B28 is needed for such requirements, many won't.

Thankfully and finally someone posted the very recent deal on the ZTE 'Axon 7'.
The specs suited me perfectly and the phone has Australian warranty. I've had the phone for only a few days now but can safely say it's a rocket.

"This item does not ship to Australia"

Weird. It puts that message up but lets you get to order confirmation screen…

  • HTCU11 was announced today and it's as ugly as this mofo if not more. What's going on with HTC these days they used to be good…

    • the only thing HTC seems to be getting good at is their VIVE vr headset. Their flagship phones are selling like underdogs in the competition.

Oppo on the other hand are doing very, very well. Which you wouldn't expect..

  • Ugh, love HTC but leave the damn headphone jack alone

For those wondering how this stacks against the competition: This is a mid-range device running MediaTek Helio P10 (budget variant of the Helio X10), despite the awfully high price tag @ Jb of over $600 dollars it's actually around the speed of a 2015 flagship smartphone (e.g Xiaomi Note 2 series)

HTC always have issues with their phones , from a purple tinge in the camera lens to a half the screen not working . They can never get a phone right

    • M8 with Classic Blinkfeed?

Best phone/price/design/sound of that generation with a decent camera when compared to what else was available at the time.

      • Best phone/price/design/sound of that generation

        Yes

        Descent Camera

        A big NO!

        • It actually was a decent camera in that generation, better than the Nexus 5 or LG or Sony.

Lost to the S5 and iPhone but they were both at a huge price premium to what you could get a good deal on M8 for. Not 'mindblowing' better like S7 was, more like 'yeah, its better'. More than does the job for social media etc.

The selfie front camera was better than both S5 and iPhone and had better software.

The cam for that generation also blows away any of the Chinese phones of this generation.

You have to keep in mind we're comparing it between 2013-2014 generation phones, obviously now we have S7, S8 and Google Pixel which blow away the competition in photos.

So yes, it was a decent camera for its time.

        • @takutox:
I actually owned M8 until I upgraded to M10 this year. M8 selfie camera was 5 MP when Samsung S5 offered 2 MP and iphone 5s had 1.2 MP. But seriously, rear camera of 4 MP on M8 was awful comparing with 16 MP and 8 MP from Samsung S5 and iphone 5s respectively.

No more HTC please. One of the worst battery back up.
