[Idea] Cheapest Way to Travel

Most of the time I end up deciding how I'm going to get to my destination by considering the time and monetary cost of the transportation options.

The saying goes "Time is Money".
For example: if you valued your time at $50/hour. Despite a Taxi/Uber/magic carpet costing you $25, it might save you 40 minutes in comparison to walking. Or it might even be more cost/time effective to just walk.

GPS navigators only give options based on time without considering the monetary costs of the options available. (eg. Google Maps, Apple Maps).

My idea is to utilize existing navigation services but instead tailor the total "cost" based on the user's self valuation of time.
When selecting your desired destination. A monetary cost will be applied to all options.

Example:
From A to B
Bus: $3.50 ticket + $50/hr * 10 minutes = $11.85
Walk: $50/hr * 20 minutes = $16.70

What are your thoughts?

  Massive oversimplification. What if the walk is middle of a hot day? What if the bus is periodically crowded? What if it's in a country where pickpockets on buses are rife? What if the walk has to start at an ungodly hour, or in the dark? What if you are carrying heavy stuff, or valuables? And so on and so forth.

  People can work through these factors. Your algorithm only takes into account money. At best it could be another factor in Maps. No doubt they have thought of this and are picking the low hanging fruit first, like time to destination.

  Problem is just because you earn $50/hour doesn't mean that's how much your spare time is worth.

  I walked 3 hours to London stansted airport to save 6 quid, when I was young and tonnes of time. Put a hole in my shoe , cost 30 quid

  what about time are memories. walking with a six pack or what ever is on offer with ur mates n chicks. seems to be with me when transport doesn't matter how long it takes.
