ThinkPad X1 Yoga - FHD or WQHD?

Hi all,

Just wondering if scaling issues are really that bad on a WQHD screen? I'll be using it for a lot of remote support.

My yoga x1 has been major delayed so they have offered the same spec Yoga but with a WQHD screen instead. But I am not sure if I should still take that offer?

Just when I had a look around they higher resolutions seemed more hassle than it was worth.

Or instead of scaling, can I just set the resolution to FHD, or does that also cause stretching?

Thanks!

I have a Dell XPS 13 with a WQHD screen. My partner has the same laptop with FHD. I'd recommend the FHD. Why? Windows, even Windows 10 has all sorts of issues scaling. IMHO, Windows 10 is not ready for WQHD, unlike the Macs. Many apps just don't work properly.

FHD on the other hand, works fine, you don't really notice the difference, it uses less power, and a big plus for me is that the screen is matte, not a glossy mirror.

Or instead of scaling, can I just set the resolution to FHD, or does that also cause stretching?

You'll have a constant battle with Windows, setting your resolution back to "optimal"

  • Thanks mate! That is exactly the answer I was hoping for. I have been thinking the same thing but thought I may just be convincing myself otherwise.

But still, being an ozbargainer, still kicking myself for passing up a freebie!

    • asked them for something else. extended warranty/extra battery or something.

If you don't ask, the answer is always no.

If you aren't confident asking for something directly, you can be a bit more passive and say "I'm happy to consider the compromise. What else are you able to offer if I do this though?"

        • Cheers guys. They actually offered me a free dock a week before this and I took that. They only really offered me the WQHD version now because they said they can get them a bit earlier.
I was thinking that was more of a 'courtesy' thing and the dock was the 'compensation' (if that's the right way to describe it), and didn't want to push my luck at the time. But thinking about it, they often throw in docks for $1 anyway.

You are right though, I should still ask as you never know! A battery warranty would have been good now you mention it.

Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that in the OP.
