Interested in F45, Would Like to Hear about Your Experience.

From what I have read F45 offers group training like fitness classes, how does it work for people at different fitness levels?

Do you have to social with the others in the group? I have heard good things about their HIIT routines, but I don't like to stick around talking before or after the sessions, but I don't like to be seen as unfriendly either.

I guess the experience will be quite different than regular gyms.

  • It caters to different fitness levels, through the number of repetitions you do and the amount of weight you are using. Similar principles are followed with the cardio workouts they do. You don't have to hang around and socialise if you don't want.

  • They charge a premium cause they can and people pay cause they cray cray

  • I am going to try it out today. Let you know after that.

    • Went to the F45 first time today. Feel really intensive, as they were doing Brooklyn today. Although it said team based or group training, but basically you are mostly doing your own exercises most of the time. For 45 minutes, you are going thru 9 different exercises in 3 groups, 2 set for each exercise in each group. The exercise is on individual, like lunges, burpee likes. There are a few which need a partner, e.g. boxing where one holding the pad, and the other one doing the punches and then switch.

The exercises are time bases and do not depend on your fitness level, it is more like HIIT. You can do less reps than others if you cant handle. There is no problem. Once the time is up, you switch to another base and do next set of exercise. Could have at most 3 ppl doing the same exercise at one time.

You probably dont have much time to talk or chit chat. The music is on. And at most got 1 minute in between to rest/hydrate/towel. 15 minutes between sessions, nobody really hanging around as the place is not big. Once the game started with the music, you cant really stay inside and talk.

Maximum 27 ppls in one session, I have probably 12 around but I think this depends on locations.

I have never been doing any functional training before only hitting the gym 2 or 3 times a week, doing some weights and treadmills. It is quite fun and I quite like. You have a week free trial, and you can do more than one sessions in a day if you dare. And honestly for my fitness level and schedule, I would probably only go no more than twice a week. And according to their website, they are charging $30 a sessions.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers,

      • Thanks for the great info. There's one near the office, I think I will go have a look tomorrow. Have yet to work out to join near home or near work, I take it that you lock in to one location, unlike typical gym memberships that let you roam around?

I hit the gym regularly, most weekday mornings before work, and have got good results so far, but still a long way to go. I feel the progress has slowed down somewhat. That's why I'm thinking to try something different.

I guess an alternative is PT, but cost can add up quickly.

  • Thinking about it further, does F45 "studio" have change and shower facilities?

    • Not sure. I think that depend on locations. Should go and check it out. The one that I went to only have a changing room, no showers. And I think if you are really paying $30 a session, you are not locked to one location. You can book your session online everywhere, I guess.

      • Well just had a look at their website, membership is for a single location. I guess that makes sense because the studios are franchisees and they are independently operated. Not so good for the customers though.

More reading reveals that shower is not available at most locations (if at all), which kinda sux. Even though our building has end of trip facilities but it's a lot of time wasting going here and there in the morning.

Now I see why people feel F45 is expensive, it's pretty much a barebone studio. $30+/week can generally pay for a premium gym membership with indoor pool, saunas/steam room, towel service, laundry press, basically the whole shebang. And they want $60/week.

They try to justify the cost by comparing to personal trainers, but then again they are not 1 on 1 either. Anyhow, perhaps I should take up the free 7-day trial before making any judgment.

        • I do agree $30 per session is expensive. However, I dont see people will be going to the F45 as regular as with the Gym. The F45 is HIIT and I am expecting people going to this type of training on and off. You will not be able to do this every day. And once you see the result, you may pause for a certain period before rejoining again.

I believe if you have a specific goal, it will worth it. But if you thinking about like a regular gym then that is not the case.

Take the free trial and it's free anyway.
