I'm saving this deal for Tuesday evening, I've received a Staff price sale "exclusive" invite for that day at their Caringbah NSW Superstore. It will be interesting to see what the price will be.
Care to share details? Link or email, how can we get that too?
it came via normal mail, happy to scan the page and post it here(if they accept prints) when I get home
@GregFiona: you nothing special about them. Just a marketing pull
The sales people get extra help from the manufacturer to sell the product through. This allows them to pass on some more savings to you whilst maintaining a healthy margin for themselves.
@Dezeption: That's what I thought, I'm just curious to see if the price changes…
Here is the scanned mail. I had to remove my info from the letter so I'm not sure they will accept a copy like this
@GregFiona: Update: standing outside the shop.A huge LED sign says" 6-9pm Tonight only VIP Night Everyone Invited" LOL
@GregFiona: was it worth. Because from staff to VIP it's always been pointless. Have been able to negotiate better at JB and Good Guys
I got the same invite from HN Dandenong.
How would this go as a monitor ? I currently use 2 x older Dell 24 inch… Always wanted to go 2x27 but didnt want to pay that much for 1440 monitors..
Might need to upgrade my video card…
Input lag would be the main concern as a monitor. There is an informative thread about this model at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2540051 likely but necessarily the 40" model.
Chroma 4:4:4 sampling will be the first this g to look at then input lag. This doesn't look like it has 4:4:4
It has 4:4:4, using it right now, do not notice any input lag in playing games
Input lag. A 4k monitor runs at 4k at 30hz. You need at least 60hz to be decent
This has 2 ports at HDMI 2.0 4:4:4 60hz at 4k
@tho760: And you need a graphics driver capable of pushing out 4k
pretty well
Check out a PROPER monitor instead
Check ebay for QNIX or X Star FREESYNC screens
also interested in a 4k monitor. actually sounds like this could be pretty good and much cheaper than monitors.
Input lag, monitors are usually less then 6ms, TVs are more than 40, their "gaming modes" are around 30ms average, not very good at all.
if its fine for console gamers its going to fine for most people, plus you get lots of smart tv features better sound and a remote control.
@ubcool: But then they may as well get a lower res TV and save money, their "4K" games don't even run native 4k content, just 1080p up-scaled , and when are are 4K they can't even hit 30fps…
Monitors don't usually have sound, but most of us have better sound setups anyway, but remote controls definitely a plus for ease of use.
@jerjergege: monitors arn't just for kids playing games. a 4k real estate is excellent for multi tasking and video editing. not everything is about games.
Do you think this will go down further for the half yearly sales?
Great price but I wouldn't buy this to replace another as you won't get much of an upgrade. Good for a spare or a first TV for someone.
I dont own a tv currently lol
Not so great at HDR apparently. Thank god I didn't buy this model cos depreciation is a bitch. (that being said depreciation is heavy for all TVs out there)
this is an entry level UHD and you asked for great HDR? for a $450 TV you serious?
When it came out last year it was over a thousand dollars. Comparable to the low end Sony's too. Didn't ask for great HDR but even ok would have done. Read what I said properly.
3 dead pixels in the first week and panel damaged from factory. Colours nice with a bit of adjusting. Gaming is bit laggy. Noisy pic. Ran 4k with 60hz fine, but not good for fps.
Here's the 40" Toshiba alternative for $454 after EFTPOS card.
Smart as well? Doesn't mention it.
This is not UHD…
40 inch 1080p
vs
40 inch 2160p (4k UHD)
lol
Does this have google play?
Nope
very nice chen
A very good price. Thanks Trent.. been pondering options for the room, and this one stands out. Plays hevc/x265 according to the spec sheet as well.
my hisense 3 series does play hevc its a bit goofy when you play files off a hard drive, its default on a movie is stretch, you have the change it to 1:1 or whatever every time you play a movie. The plex app is a bit dodgy too, it forces my plex server to transcode for some reason, and it hammers the machine… 100% cpu. Its like any of these cheap tvs and some branded ones too, the functions are there but the implementation is the problem. Id be factoring in a kodi box with one of these things. The HDMI CEC seems to work well which is a plus, also the on tv youtube app and the wireless ac is good which is a huge bonus.
Thanks for the feedback.. much appreciated..made me laugh with your goofy description. Good to know hevc does work off a drive at least.. albeit slightly goofy.
These are typical problems you get with Chinese designed TVs. Goofy English, stretched pictures and buggy apps. Best to stick with proper brands like Sony and Samsung.
Picked mine up today. The ticket said $799. So far so good.
Price matched at JB for $445. Quite happy with the pq out the box to be honest. Good value…
Really decent TV for the price. Picked the last one up at HN Moorabbin. Seems like they're quicky running out of stock across vic (if they haven't already).
I snoozed and lost no more stock locally to me in Melbourne there previously was stock in richmond
Might be best to wait for end of financial year sales in a month and a bit, also computex 2017 is at the end of may for introducing new products meaning older models will also decrease in value.
And I would recommend the bigger brands for a TV, LG for example, they make nearly all the panels on the market, just because once you buy one most would have to stick with it a long time.
Plus Amex 350 spend 50 cashback
I may actually pull the trigger on a new tv
