Lens hood is much better than any cheap UV filters.

      This! ^
You can get cheap lens hoods off ebay - doesnt need to be genuine, an aftermarket one will do the trick well enough (difference is usually a fabric lining to reduce reflection).

Basically uv filters are the screen protectors for lenses.

  • hmmmmm, I have 2 x 52mm lens & 1 filter; could get another for $9.99, not bad I guess…

  • can someone tell me which size should I buy for the Sony kit lens PZ 16-50mm (with the A6000)?

    Thanks

    • Thats the compact one right? I'm not sure if it even has a UV filter thread on it.

If it does it would either be the 37 or 40.5 - that thing is tiny!

      • yea it's the compact one that comes out when you turn on camera…i've just checked there are no thread on it at all… :(
        Thank anyway :)

        • Homer, I've got the 16-50mm lens and also bought one of the lens filters. It takes a 40.5mm and it definitely screws on. :)

Is this a good deal? - Yes!

Just a reminder for people, your lens is only as good as the worst piece of glass in front of it. If you have anything outside a kit lens, this will probably be a downgrade in image quality.

If you are looking to either reduce glare, or to protect your lens from drops - get a lens hood. You can pick up a cheap one for $5 off ebay. If you are looking to buy one because you need a UV filter & care about your image quality - spend a lot more money than $2.

    • I have one of these inca brand UV filters and trust me, they are bad even on a kit lens.

I also see no way a UV filter could ever improve image quality on a digital camera.

    • I never use UV filter in front of a great glass, just lens hood that comes with the lens and for my 50mm got a cheap $2-3 from eBay that gets the job done just like the original one.

  • I used a cheap UV filter and image quality was much worse. Now i only use it if at beach/raining.

  • The incas I bought were awful. Lens caps don't even sit right on them. And they degraded image quality too much for my tastes. Unusable so I took them back. Kenkos are fine.
