I haven't got anything from AMEX (as a merchant). Last weekend one in 2016 was 14 to 15 May.
What type of business do you operate? Do you embrace the Amex benefits and encourage your customers to use Amex as payment?

I leave that to the customer to choose, no surcharges on cards.
I expect Amex usage will drop significantly.
ANZ dropping it completely. CBA Amex will only earn 0.5 a point per $1 compared to Mastercard 1 point per $1.
I'm noticing a lot of newer businesses are not accepting Amex now, and are instead accepting (profanity) "UnionPay" instead.
Why the profanity?

I was in China when I posted this.
Was getting sick to death of places which avertised that MasterCard was accepted, telling me they don't know how to 'start the foreigner mastercard machine', and then I'd see people paying with UnionPay and Wechat pay (QR codes).
I certainly hope the latter doesn't appear here.Last time I was in China (before wechat pay), my mastercard was accepted anywhere that advertised mastercard.
Hong Kong is a lot better in this regard, Android/Apple pay, Visa/Mastercard (paypwave and paypass) worked everywhere.
Nothing to do with accepting Amex or not.

All the Amex Connect deals seem to have dried up or not as good as previous deals from the same merchant.
I don't care much about the amex deals but I need shop small soon because I'm running out of opal by the end of this month.
Yep my wine stocks of quality wines running low. I buy my wines RRP ~$15, on special 2 for ~$20 less $10 rebate. 30 times. (3 cards x10 stores) So 30 times I get a surge of happiness :)
I feel like Amex statement credits have been drying up. Hasn't been so many lately. Would be interesting to see a chart of Amex statement credit deals and whether there's been a decline in numbers of votes.
