Does anyone know if you can still sign up for Telstra 6 months free Apple Music after the general 3 months trial with Apple Music? If so, that would mean 9 months worth of Apple Music!

Yes you can, that's the way I used mine. When the three month trial period is over cancel your subscription with apple and activate Apple Music with telstra.
The $30 saving definitely sounds worth the hassle of cancelling and resubscribing!
