Anyone into Blackstrap Molasses?

Hi,
Can anyone do me a favor? I am worried about my grandpa's health!
My diabetic grandpa has been just so into molasses recently, while he insists they are diabetes-friendly.

And after I read some papers on them, I really can't make a good argument to dissuade him from that sugar. Said blackstrap molasses has a moderate glycemic load of 55. This makes it a good sugar substitute for diabetics and individuals who are seeking to avoid blood sugar spikes. Moreover, one serving of blackstrap contains no fat and only 32 calories, making it suitable for a diet.

Thinking if that's true, I would buy some more for him, considering the molasses on crazysales is at a favorable price:

  • It's sugar.

The glycemic load is lower than refined sugars, but it's still sugar. If you substituted these molasses in place of an equivalent amount of refined sugar it may have a very small benefit, but they sure as hell aren't "diabetes-friendly". This is exactly the stuff diabetics should not touch with a 10-foot pole.

Molasses is a great alternative to sugar. It is a very good natural source of copper which is needed in the body.
If your hair is starting to go gray then this is a sign of a copper deficiency.
I consume a teaspoon with my morning coffee and my hair is still jet black at 46 years of age :)
